Default Low prices for Five Star?

I realize some - maybe most - people have shied away from buying Five Star, but I'm still shocked at some of the bargains to be had on eBay for these cards. Some recent examples:

Chris Ivory RC Quotable card sold for $67 (free shipping)
Chris Ivory 2010 Topps Five Star (ON CARD) AUTO RC /15 - eBay (item 220744975898 end time Feb-27-11 20:22:47 PST)

Joe Namath Triple Patch Auto sold for $98 ($3 shipping)
TOPPS FIVE 5 STAR JOE NAMATH AUTO 3X PATCH BOOK 08/10 - eBay (item 360347313381 end time Feb-27-11 19:00:48 PST)

Junior Seau Patch Auto sold for $24 ($3 shipping)
2010 Topps Five Star JUNIOR SEAU 2 Clr PATCH AUTO /30 - eBay (item 400198044949 end time Feb-27-11 18:08:58 PST)

Howie Long Triple Patch Auto Book sold for $37 ($2 shipping)
HOWIE LONG 2010 Five Star AUTO Triple Patch Book #15/20 - eBay (item 270711581729 end time Feb-27-11 17:50:39 PST)

Ladanian Tomlinson Triple Patch Auto sold for $67 ($3.50 shipping)
Topps Five Star Ladanian Tomlinson Book Auto Patch 5/10 - eBay (item 270711572653 end time Feb-27-11 17:15:46 PST)

Tim Tebow Red Zone RC Auto sold for $107 ($3 shipping)
2010 TOPPS FIVE STAR RED ZONE TIM TEBOW RC AUTO 73/100 - eBay (item 180631429906 end time Feb-27-11 16:06:03 PST)

Now in most of these cases, these are going to be the ONLY on card auto's of these veteran players for the year on a high end card. So I'm at a lose as to why they are bringing in so little.

- Too much product on the market now?
- People's hate of Five Star trumps game used patches and on card auto's of veterans? (what buyers *claim* to want)
- People waiting for NT, even though all sell sheet info only claims RPA and dual/quad RC auto's to be on card?

I'm not trying to defend Five Star, and I don't want to get into an argument as to what is wrong with Five Star. I am fully aware there are some problems with it, as with 99% of all releases.

But the fact remains that Five Star delivered on some *apparently* critical issues with collectors: on card auto's, game used patches, and low serial numbered cards. Based on sales of Five Star, I would argue that those things are NOT as important to collectors as are thought to be? Or are there other factors that trump those issues, like over-saturation of cards in the market?

Curious what others think about it?

I respectfully disagree with all of the above bolded. Topps did the usual "bait & switch" on the 5* sell sheet by promising big things and not delivering. No one is going to pay big after market prices for what is being pulled. One color patches, RC cards of players that have a blue million cards already, etc. This should be no surprise IMHO.

My opinion is that this product is just overpriced, and that's the issue. It delivers very nice content, but singles just won't pack the same punch on the secondary market in football as they would in basketball.

Yeah, one color patches suck, those are not cool, and I do see a premium being paid for cards that have multi-color patches. But there are plenty of cards that do have multi-color patches in this product, and even some of those are just not getting a good sale price, I think.

I'm just surprised that on card auto's don't seem to make much difference to collectors. Or maybe the market is just flooded. If that's what is happening here, then I expect the same for NT, or worse... Ugh.

Yeah, I like the product too. I think it has a nice Exquisite feel to it for sure. Nice looking cards. I'm not denying problems with it, but it just seems to me those problems are overshadowing the good things about it.

All cases are too expensive.
