Default Paypal + Shipping + DC question.

So I know there have probably been threads before this that may answer this but I have seen "DC is only $0.18 with paypal" in some threads recently so I figured paypal shipping would be much cheaper the next time i ship.

Let's say I have a package (single card in a PWE) that costs me $0.60 to ship first class when i got to my local usps.

Would I just be able to use similar packing + the DC and print a paypal shipping label out for $.78, stick in my mailbox, and be done with it?? Do I need to weight it?

And then for a larger package, let's say a team lot (or a lot of cards) in a bubble mailer that would usually cost $3 or up to ship. How does paypal know how much that should ship for? Like without an accurate scale? Can you just guess and then if you're you wrong you get it sent back to you by the post office?

Any help would be appreciated! Lmk if you don't get what I am asking.

First off, if you are thinking of using Paypal shipping you need to buy a postage scale. There have been numerous threads on this, I purchased mine at Wal-mart for under $20 I think.

From the few cases I've heard, an item will still get to it's destination, but it'll be with POSTAGE DUE AT ARRIVAL. Meaning that whoever your package is supposed to go to? Will owe the mailman X$ to claim their package. Usually that person gets super pissed and starts dinging feedback right and left.

Also, anything over 13 ounces HAS TO BE MAILED at the post office. Or something very close to that (12/14oz?).

Paypal shipping is easy to use. Printer, postage scale, bubble mailer or manila envelope, tape, scissors, a few packing peanuts or old bubble wrap, and away you go. It's sooo nice to walk out to your mailbox and mail stuff. Or if it's semi-high dollar? You can drop it off at any blue mail box, or even just walk to the head of the line at the PO and give the mailer to the worker there.

The part I have bolded you cannot do w/DC.
DC must be something that is at least 1/4 inch thick (I believe that is correct size)(bubble mailer w/ packing peanut usually works) or they will upgrade your mailing to priority and postage due.
you can do other stuff like add insurance and sig confirmation to a letter but not DC.
got my scale at walmart, its a 5lb one. with the new changes that are coming next week you really won't need to even weigh single cards or even up to 5-10 depending on how they are packed and thickness, there will be a flat fee for 1-3 oz packages.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the quick reply fellows it's actually really helpful as I was obviously kinda lost on this lol

Just to make sure I got this straight: So for something like a bubble mailer with a few cards, I could use a scale to just weigh my package, insert the weight into the paypal shipping and it will calculate it for me, add DC, then print and im all set?

And I had not heard about those changes thanks for the info. Does that mean bubble mailers and PWE at the same price then?

PWE won't be the same price as bubble mailers. PWE is considered First Class Letter. Bubble mailers are First Class "Package/Parcel" which is where the 1/4" comes into play. Only bubble mailers 1-3oz will be the same price.

With Paypal shipping you don't have a choice with DC, they automatically add it for you, but otherwise yea you just put in the address and weight and they charge you the appropriate cost.

For the record, a package must be 3/4" thick to qualify for the electronic DC. If its not and its found, they will upgrade your package to priority rates and charge the receipant postage due.

Rates go up on Sunday, but right now your looking at 1.41 for a 1 oz package via paypal ship (1.22 + .19 for eDC). Its 0.17 cents for every additional ounce. So a 3 oz package would be 1.75 (1.41 + .34).

As of Sunday, packages under 3 oz will be 1.75. Then the additional .17 per ounce (up to 13 oz at which point you are now using priority rates).

I disagree. I have never had anything returned that I put into my mailbox for the mailman to pick up. I usually just guess based on what seems best and it has always worked.

The 13 ounce rule does not apply if you purchase a label using paypal, us the USPS click n ship, or the automated postal centers. You are not allowed to mail something with just stamps if it is over 13 ounces.
