I have a question about how player names/card descriptions are handled in the COMC system. I have several card of Karl "Tuffy" Rhodes listed. When you search for Karl Rhodes, you get results for both "Karl Rhodes" (including older minor and major league cards) as well as "Tuffy Rhodes". However, when searching for "Tuffy Rhodes" only the more recent Japanese cards show up. I suspect this has something to do with Beckett's database and their not having the two names perfectly lined up, but I was wondering, is there was any way COMC could connect the two names in their own database so a search for Karl Rhodes or Tuffy Rhodes would return all of his cards?

Speaking for myself, I dropped a few Jeters to 25 cents just to help out cb7171 with his project, and I assume he was the one who bought them the other day. It's not like he was asking people to drop prices on Jeter GU or autos to 25 cents, just any old Jeter cards. They were just minor inserts that were priced higher by other sellers, but I was happy to drop the price to help out a board member with his project.

A very nice gesture on your part.... I just did not want to see him get his hopes up....

2. This is not a huge deal, but maybe it would be a helpful pricing tool if the database supports it. It would be interesting to see a sale history and rough pricing info for all of a certain card. IE: current price price range, mean sale price, min sold price, max sale price, last sale price. This information would probably be most appropriate for the "Manage My Inventory" section next to each items pricing. This would certainly help in pricing, maybe even create a suggested asking price based on these statistics (probably a somewhat conservative formula to keep pricing stable). A good example is the pricing menu when selling an item through a site such as Half.com (see below). I'm aware that there are varying conditions, special serial numbering, etc, that can affect a card's market value, but this would be a great tool for providing a nice estimate.

I have passed this idea on to the powers that be at COMC. Thanks!

I have asked about this and hope to have an answer sometime this next week.

Has anyone else gotten any emails/info from their Nationals submissions? I've still yet to get any postings (and more importantly the $$ pulled from my account).

2 out of 4 here. My 11 card express lot has already been posted and the other lot is due 9/30. Two more lots are MIA so far (one $40 promo box and another 200 or so standard processing).

All I can say is that I am chomping at the bit to have my first lot posted. My first express lot posted last Friday and is due this Friday and already states 80% done. It is exciting to get started... I already have my second box in the works....

Default Comc etiquette

I have a COMC etiquette question:

I bought a card last night at the seller's asking price and re-listed it. Today the same seller sent me an offer for the card for just a bit more than I paid for it from him. I wouldn't accept that offer from any other buyer, but is it bad form to refuse to sell the card back to the original seller?

What do other people think?

I would say sell it back to him and send him a lower offer. (=

THANKS, COMC for the new Watch List feature! It's similar to the shopping cart, except you can make an offer on just one card instead of every single card in the shopping cart.

I would find it more useful if it was sortable, especially if we could add other factors like percentage of guide, or filter it by sport. Also, it would be useful if we could add notes to watch list items.

hockeycards - I've never had that happen before, but it seems to me you are not under any obligation to sell the card back to the same seller. If you can find them elsewhere on cyberspace (this board for instance), you might contact them and ask if they have a special use for it, but that would be above and beyond your obligation, IMO.

I just wanted to give a shout out to a few COMC members who may or may not be on these boards. They made a couple of purchases that took me over the 3k in sales barrier during the last couple of days! Took longer than I expected but a nice milestone none the less:

TJCARDS
LIAMLANDON
dctwells
cccardfactory

and to everyone else out there who have helped me and comc over the past 2+ years I have been on. 4k is the next milestone and maybe I can stop buying to actually reflect the sales

I recently picked up a huge collection of basketball cards from around 1990 to 2005. I am not too familiar with the more recent stuff, and I am trying to figure out what to send in to COMC. I noticed that base set cards from the early nineties are basically all on the site for .25 or less (except maybe jordan's). However, there are relatively few base set cards from the more recent years. I am wondering why this is, and if there is any value in sending this stuff in. For instance, a Duncan or Gasol from a premium set like topps finest or spx that books for $2.50 when there is only one copy on the site priced at $1.50. Will these cards sell? My concern is that a lot of this stuff is available for .18 on sportlots, and people just aren't sending them in because they know they won't sell.

I'm not sure what you all have, but personally, when it comes to base, I'd stick with the top names Jordan, Kobe, etc. The semistar base on down I personally dump on the LCS in 3200 ct. boxes and hope for $20 in store credit...if you have some $5+ BV insert cards, mid-level RCs or anything reasonably numbered, those are also good for selling on the site.

I don't do much BKB, but that's the formula I apply when setting aside cards from my breaks of FB and BB.

mrwalken - It depends on your comfort level. I would personally send in anything where I'd be comfortable taking 50% of the lowest COMC price, after paying 40 cents in processing and storage fees. (15 cents plus 1 cent per month for an additional 25 months). Using that formula, when the smoke clears, there's a point at which you'd rather just take 18 cents cash out the door.

A lot of stuff will sell for more than 50% of the lowest COMC price and will take a lot less than 2 years to sell, but that's the scenario that's prudent to contemplate.

For me, the thresh hold is about $2 or more in book value and a lowest COMC price of $1 or more. If a card meets both of those requirements, I'll generally send it in. However, I'm much more comfortable with stuff that books for at least $5 and has a lowest COMC price of at least $3.

Stuff from the 1990's was produced in much greater quantity than stuff from the 2000's. Also, in the 1990's, even the most decadent super premium product was maybe $4 to $5 a pack. Now, they produce "packs" which will retail for $100 to $500 or more, and only contain 1 to 3 base cards.

My experience has been that cards such as you describe will sell, but that there's limited upside and a few downsides. First, if the lowest COMC price is $1.50, then that's probably the most you will get from the card. Second, it's possible that in the 8 weeks it takes to process, other sellers will submit 6 other copies of the card and someone will lower their price to 25 cents or less. Third, it's possible that your copy of the card will never sell, and you'll either have to pay 1 cent storage forever, or you'll have to reduce your price to 25 cents so that you don't have to pay storage fees, or you'll have to pay processing fees to get the card back.

Looking for Andre Dawson Serial numbered cards that are his jersey number - either #8 or #10. So looking for cards like 8/8 or 08/99 or 10/250.
