Default Thinking about starting up a COMC seller account...

So what are the positives and negatives? Also any advice?

Another question to the masses:

What's a good, secure way to ship a ton ton ton of low-end inserts to COMC? I'm talking like a 4 row white card box that's completely full.

It takes forever for the first 30 day batch to finish it seems. But I have sent in a 700 card order, have a 700 card order processing, and have a 1200 one boxed to go just havnt gone to the Post office yet.

I hate the fees at first because it sucks to pay $300 without a single card for sale for 30 days, but overtime its not to bad. I do enjoy checking daily and seeing a card or two sell. I mainly have cheap stuff now.

My advice would be if your sending in a large order do the 30 days, save the fees from 10 day service or w/e it is. Try to weed out things that might sit @ 50 cents from the first order.

I would do 2 or 3 separate shipments of roughly 1200 cards. I box mine in 400-600 count boxes, and can fit usually 1 600 and I believe 3x 400s in a flat rate box for $12. Stagger them a week or two apart that way you can list everything before the next batch hits.

I love it, for me I have no way of dumping my $0.25 - $15 cards. Granted I price stuff super cheap on COMC but for me getting something is better than just throwing my cards away (which is what I do with junk base).

I have also used it a ton to finish off sets which the site is fantastic for.

I have enjoyed it. Like someone else said the upfront fees suck. My first ever submission I submitted like 2,200 cards or something and my fees were like $740 bucks

my biggest positive for COMC is this. Once you get back to that "break even" point where your sales have equaled your fees, It is just like you have traded all your low end cards, that would have just sat in your closet taking up space and doing nothing, for a bunch of new wax to rip

How can you complain about free product

I find sportslots is a lot better for finishing off sets, especially if its base or refractor sets and way cheaper

agreed.

It is much easier and cheaper for base stuff on sportslots.

I usually try to fit things into one of the flat-rate Priority boxes with the free del. tracking. Just be sure to get insurance....just in case.

I was in the same boat as you, but only sent in about half of my inserts. If it's a gold of some random guy, it might sell for $0.25...which is what you're paying to put it on the site.

Always smart to check going rates for insert sets before submitting.

I sent in a little over 200 cards a few months back. None of the cards I sent in were high value, mostly stuff that I would make $1 or $2 on if I sold them on eBay. I sold some of them over a few weeks and built my account up to a little over $300. I have since sold my remaining port for close to $600. I have a Barry bonds /20 auto, a mark montgomery blue auto, and about 20 other bowman prospect autos being shipped to me currently and I still have $400 left in my account. I am boxing up my next shipment of cards to send to COMC today. I have really enjoyed my experience so far.

I'm also looking to start up a sellers account there and was really curious about what would be the best items to send in. Is it just as plain and simple as looking what they currently have in stock and send items they don't have? If I have thousands to send in that would seem a bit time consuming. What items tend to move better? If anyone experienced selling on COMC could give me a PM with tips to create a successful account I'd really appreciate it.

What is a port?

Is it the word they use for your stock where you sell it as whole to another seller? Do you determine this price?

Port is all your cards,as for price whatever the lowest amount you would take.

ok fellas... I am partnering with a friend to start a COMC account. Our first submission is going to be huge. Minimum 1,000 cards and possibly up to 3,000. Is this is even possible on an initial submission?

Possible? Yes. Suggested? No.

You get $20 free, that is 80 cards. I would send somewhere around 300 to 300 cards to keep your costs down. Keep them in the $2 to $5 range.

Once you start making some money, send in more stuff.

I honestly don't think regular base cards sell very well, and if you do decide to sell them, wait a month or 2 and see how your sales go. You don't want to send 2000 cards and be out $500 bucks if they won't sell.

The things that sell best are inserts and numbered cards. I assume you mainly did bowman from what you said, so the Top 100, flag, blue, orange, mini, and ice cards will sell well there. The base could sell but don't count on it. Gold is better than base and I would send before base but still not as good as the other stuff I listed.

For base, I think your best option would just be selling it in groups. Fill up a 500 count box (or really anything) and sell it here or on ebay. I would try to keep MLB, prospects, and chrome all separate but you could try together. Many people are into prospects and if they could buy a box of cards for around 10 cents each, possibly more for the chrome, they would love it and use them for TMM/IP autos.

Yes, but you will be putting up a bunch of dough for that... probably around $750 for a 3,000 card submission.

I would encourage you to take advantage of their 6th anniversary special. The Road to The National | COMC Blog

The only cards we're submitting are low end prospect autos and some vets, chrome and paper parallels, triple threads stuff, sterling, etc...

I'll look into their deal. I am hoping to have this shipped and at comc by next friday.

We are still selling mid-low to high end cards on ebay.

We're selling vet base and other junk base in flat rate boxes. Between the tons of group breaks and the product we bust there's a lot to ship.

We're doing this to get 'free' wax and cards.
