Default COMC oddities...

How many lifetimes would it take for all the Ziggy Palffy cards on COMC to sell? Well, there are 2556 copies of THIS ONE CARD on COMC right now.

1991-92 Upper Deck #71 - Ziggy Palffy
Courtesy of COMC.com

So far, according to the sales data, this card has transferred 56 times to another member, and 22 sales that actually left the COMC building, in presumably six years. So if the card actually departs the warehouse 22 times in six years, that's about 4 copies selling a year. So it would take about 700 years in order to sell them all, presuming nobody else mailed one in!
Why the cheapest card is only 25 cents instead of a nickel, I don't know. When you have that many copies on site, you're better off just taking the nickel when you can get it, right? So next time you're considering getting a port, make sure there aren't many Ziggy Palffy cards... ;-)

Another interesting one:

2013 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects #1 - Yasiel Puig
Courtesy of COMC.com

This is the #1 listed baseball card, and you can guess why. Puig exploded on the scene in 2013, and probably many of these were mailed in when they were selling for $5 a pop. There are now 844 raw cards listed, and 61 PSA 10 cards, while the cheapest raw card is 87 cents. All 61 PSA 10s are owned by the same seller, but in two years, only two have sold off-site for a max of $13. All 61 cards are listed at $28.95. I'm not sure how this card will ever rebound for those to sell anywhere near what they're listed at.

What cards (exempting the high prices from Joels and Deans) confuse you the most on COMC?

You know the 2nd biggest card on COMC is Ziggy Palffy too, right? This one:

I'd say this Jerious Norwood relic is one of my faves...66 copies and still 96 cents as the lowest:

On a lark I added all the first Palffy cards to my cart. It would cost $3,655 to ship all the copies to me... about $1.40 a card or so. ;-)

And I know I would want an 800 count box of Alvin Dark cards... to hold my door open when I don't have a rubber doorstop handy.

It really does go to show how much those late 80's/early 90's cards were over produced to the max. I wonder how many copies of that Ziggy Upper Deck card exist. Tens or hundreds of thousands?

Oh, Millions of those Upper Deck hockey per card. I lived in Florida and hockey card fever had spread down here. I busted a couple of boxes of the Emerald Parkhurst in 1992.

To me, this is equal to one of those ancient, existential questions: what is the sound of one hand clapping? If a tree falls in the woods....

And now...

Why are there so many Alvin Dark subset cards on COMC?

Why is everyone referring to Alvin Davis as Alvin Dark?

2009 Topps Updates & Highlights Sketch Cards #SHVI - Shane Victorino /1
Courtesy of COMC.com

I call this one Victorino/Victoria a la Victor Victoria (1982) - IMDb

Alvin Dark was a player in the 60s. It wasn't racist thing, I just recalled the wrong guy's name. Kind of like the UD Frank Thomas signature that was posted in the baseball board last week: it had a picture of the White Sox HOF but the auto was from the 1960s Pirate. ;-)

I used to work at a Comic n Cards store when I was in high school, this was back in 1993-94. Those Emerald Parkhurst cards were THE hot ticket in Hockey cards. The 1992-93 set was a huge seller.

2013 Leaf Pride of the Pinstripe Cut Signatures Masterpiece #WHWI - [Missing] /1 [BGS AUTHENTIC]
Courtesy of COMC.com

Does the Witt signature look like it was written by the same guy who wrote "Muesel" and "Babe" Ruth, and is printed on the photo, not signed in ink? I reported it for COMC to take a closer look, because the Ruth sig is not good, the Bob Meusel is spelled wrong, and the Witt still looks like a print. The card is for Witt, so I guess it's feasible that he wrote all the names of the team members on a group photo and that it is authentic, but I'd like to see another opinion.

He was very popular with the Kings. His Kings jerseys are still pretty popular with the fans.

Funny thread haha.

I saw something for the first time this morning....

2000-Now NikeStore Spokesmen Gift Cards No Cash Value Added #LEJA - Lebron James

I've seen plenty of old phone cards with players pictured sell (even sold a couple myself), but never an old gift card with a player on it.

He has it listed for like $100! I would be happy if I got $2.50 for it.

Some gift cards are actually becoming fairly valuable.

Here is a Lebron with zero value on it..

Lebron James RARE Rookie Year Gift Card | eBay

Then there are the Starbucks cards just like the coffee mugs they can be insane.

I was right! They updated the information on the card to read: "Condition Notes: Signature is preprinted and not authentic as Leaf claims"

That is a pretty bold statement from COMC. The professional way to have handled it would have been contacting Leaf directly and pulling the card. If it is fake then it should not be listed. I would hope that Leaf has some documentation on it, if not I am sure Brian would get it authenticated or replace it.

Okay, lets pretend for a second that is Whitey Witt's autograph and not a printed signature...to encapsulate that cut that way with the the Babe Ruth is just down right shady.

I think the picture is cut from a newspaper.
