2011 Contenders Design to be Revealed Today!!

Just read on their Facebook page that previews of the product will be posted today. I'll try to grab some links & scans to post in this thread. I have to admit I'm a little nervous about the design. It could make or break my hobby year, since I haven't busted anything yet and planned on mostly Topps Chrome and Contenders to satisfy the need to bust. I've been emailing/posting on Panini's blog, twitter and facebook for the past 3 months about a sneak peek. Can't wait.

Once the pics are revealed, I'd love to hear feedback from the BO community.

I'm looking forward to this too. I absolutely LOVED 2008 Contenders, one of my favorite designs in many years. In 2009, I wasn't impressed. The design was too busy, and I don't like horizontal base cards. 2010 was a return to form, I really enjoyed the base design, and you just can't beat on-card autos.

Contenders is my favorite product every year. As far as design, I usually like it.

2010: Great design going back to their roots.

2009: Nice but a little busy.

2008: Too dark and the sticker autos don't show up well.

2007: Nice, colorful design but again a tad busy.

2010 was a great design, even though it would have been 10x better without the foil. 2009 was a train wreck. 2008 would have been amazing if it didnt say "ROOKIE" in huge letters emblazoned across the player.

If this is the design you're referencing, I actually wouldn't mind that. I'd like if the player's head/arms broke the border like his head does. Obviously that fugly yellow Panini logo would need to go!!! If they used a field in the background inplace of that woodgrain, or better yet a pigskin texture like UD Ovation did I'd be ok with that. I think part of the reason this baseball look so incredibly bad is just the lack of MLB license. I wouldn't LOVE it, but it could be worse...

Reminds me too much of the 1987 Topps Baseball set.

I don't know. I think the 2010-11 Hockey Tickets look a lot like the 2010 Contenders with the big ticket designs on the front.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

2010-11 hockey is a take off of 2010 football, not 2011 football. There will be a new design today.

As long as there is not manu-patches like the hideous cards for basketball, there is at least a shot that it could be good. Their track record has been less than mediocre this year so far.

That's all a typical Panini design anyway. Make it look awful to everyone outside the company, then it can be released lol.

But your PS design did scare me for a minute

LOL, just playin guys. I really do hope the new design is NOTHING like my mock up.
I give Panini a lot of grief about some of their designs, but hopefully Contenders pulls through as a giant winner.

I'm really excited about it, that's for sure.

They released the look of Plates and Patches football and OMG its UGLY! Who is on the creative team over there? A kindergarderner?

Has anyone seen SPA football? It is ugly as sin! Last years was nice other then the tiny window for the patches.

I haven't seen P&P, but SPA was honestly looking beyond bad and not even close to ANY version of theirs in the past. I was actually really upset to see those. Even if they had their license those designs would doom the product.

Did you happen to see those custom SPA's that looked AMAZING!!!?
