Question what do you think, my first 1/1?

So I just thought I would keep this thread going instead of starting a new one.... Was bored yesterday watching football so I tried my hand on another sketch card.... Rodgers. What do you think? (I got some good drawing board and cut it down on our sheet-metal sheer allowing for more detail and darker blacks/grays Vs. using a blank/dummy from packs.)
...looks way better in person, there's no glare from the graphite.

OLD Part of thread.....
Ok so the only way I can afford a 1/1 is to make it .

This is my first attempt at a sketch card and was wondering what you guys thought?

please use poll to rate from 1 to 10

Also I have some questions if you would be kind enough to answer them for me.

1. do you hate sketch cards?
2. If you dont hate sketch cards do you prefer color?
3. think I could get 10 bucks for this?
4. do you prefer legends or veterns/stars?
5. would condition of a sketch up card matter to you if you bought one?

The (line) quality isn't the best due to doing this on a soft blank, in the future if I do anymore of these I bought some nice hard multimedia/drawing board to do them on. That should help the shadows be darker and the card to have a less textured look, and also allow me to do a lot more detail.

Thanks for the feedback, good or bad in advance.

I like it a lot. Great work!

1) I don't hate sketch cards, but on the other hand I wouldn't pay too much for one either.
2) I personally like the BW, especially on a old school coach like Lombardi.
3) I think you could get $10-$25 on it. Just market it correctly as a custom to avoid any neg feedback from people thinking it's licensed.
4) Vets/Stars/Retired are all equal in my mind, go with the 'player of the week' if you're looking to make $.
5) If I spent money on one, condition definitely would matter. The card stock would matter too.

Good luck and again, excellent artwork! To make it more legit, perhaps print a sticker on back stating who it is, when it was drawn, the fact that it's a 1/1 and a space for you to sign as the artist? I think a 'printed' element on back would help it's value vs just a plain white back.

UPDATE: I agree with Grid's comment below and think it would be best printed on a sticker or something 'official' on back.
If you care to try a custom of Rodgers with a pic from one of their Throwback Retro uniform games I'd be interested.

It would have looked better if you didnt use a marker and write 1/1 on it. You should have just left it alone as a little sketch. I still gave you a 10 though!

WOW. Impressive stuff man.

Yeah I agree with a lot of things already said. Maybe where 1/1 goes would be your signature. And then a printed thing on the back stating 1/1 would be cool.

very nice,

Do away with the 1/1 "marketing tool" for your work, leave that to card companies--stick with the original art work label, you'll do fine.

That's really great work and $10-$25 is far too little for that kind of quality. People who appreciate work like that will go $50 plus for somebody they collect. Also I agree with others on the 1/1. Get it machined on there or maybe a sticker on the back.

I usually don't care for sketch cards much but u did a great job on this one bud. I'm gonna have to disagree with the ppl above cuz I actually like the 1/1 and where you placed it. The only thing I might add would be my sig in the lower right corner. But great job man, hope to see more in the future!!

I know I f'd it up with the 1/1, I did it in pencil first and erased it but it was still visible so I just slapped the pen 1/1 on there to cover it up.

I actually had some stuff in my head that I thought I should have done and you guys are confirming some of it.

Helmutt, I plan on doing a decent amount of rodgers in the future (my fav. current player also) I will give you a heads up if I'm selling any before they hit the bay.

What sucks is all art board has the company crap on the back so I would have to do printed stickers for a back and I don't know if I have the capability to do it with my current set up.

Thanks for the feedback, very helpful so far, keep it coming!

I have had a couple tags (some rather large) as an artist in my life so I signed the two most common on the back as to not muck up the front.

For what its worth I just bought a Joe Namath 1/1 patch and I was checking on eBay to see what his 1/1 stuff sells for before I made an offer and I saw that this sold for 15 bucks and your work is much better. Dont waste your skills selling them for 10 bucks.

2011 Joe Namath New York Jets 1/1 Sketch Card By:Q | eBay

I'm with the other saying the 1/1 should be on the back. Just do something like this, make a separate card on your printer, stick it behind the card and put it in a 1-screw with some kind of sticker on the top so its tamper proof. I bet you would get the most money out of them that way.

I agree completely. I was just basing my $10-25 ballpark on the sketch cards that I've seen sell...but they are of much lower quality. Again props to the artist here. Really nice work. Thanks Matt for offering a heads up on upcoming Rodgers ones before you hit ebay, I'm definitely interested. Hook me up with a 'forum friend' price and I'll waive my consulting fees

Nice work! Just sign somewhere on the front. When I started out on blank stock I would write the subject and my name on the back with a larger signature.

1. do you hate sketch cards?
Hell no!!

2. If you dont hate sketch cards do you prefer color?
Not at all. Some of my favorite ones are black and white.

3. think I could get 10 bucks for this?
Yup.

4. do you prefer legends or veterns/stars?
I personally prefer whatever I'm into, whether it be old or new players.

5. would condition of a sketch up card matter to you if you bought one?
Not sure what you mean by condition? I wouldn't want one that was bent in half , but if an edge or corner is nicked it doesn't bother me. It's not like I'm going to grade the thing anyway.

Keep up the good work!

so far feedback has been very helpful! keep it coming. I am a perfectionist (by nature/nurture, still unsure) and every comment is being absorbed and stored for future use hopefully I can do better in the future with the help you guys are giving me!

I had seen Q's sketch cards on ebay and that is where I got the idea, and decided to give it a shot. I tried to contact Q to have some Dialogue about his experiences and not step on his toes but apparently he wasn't interested in talking.

"What a jerk! Now this "official" poll will forever be tainted!", lol, the poll was just for me to compare where I thought I was at to what you guys think, not to get a bunch of high marks to stroke my ego or get a bunch of low marks and feel attacked.

As per normal I am way more critical of my work then the general public, no shocker there. I get yelled at monthly by my boss/fiance for trying to hold co-workers to my standards, or too high of standards.

Again thanks for the feedback everybody, and future posters please respond to #1-#4 if you can/have time.

Yeah, corners are pretty much what I am talking about, its hard to handle something that small as much as you have too and not scuff corners. I am hoping that that may be a thing of the past now that I will be working on art-board instead of dummies/blanks.
