Default better upside? stevan ridley or shane vereen?

both saw limited playing time last year, but i expect at least one of these two to have a breakout year in 2012. question is which one and why? imo im thinking ridley because from the games i did see him play he looked great AND i have pulled more of his cards out of 2011 product than anyone else, lol.

I think Ridley played well when he got the time. The Patriots backfield seems like the ultimate coin flip. And who is to say someone else doesn't further cloud the situation.

Depending on what you mean by "breakout," I'm going to go with neither. With a depleted receiving corp, the leading rusher for the Pats had <700 yards. Now that they loaded up with receivers even before the draft, chances remain slim that any of the backs will break 1k in rushing.

Depth is a key factor. Who stepped in for Branch when he was injured at the end of the regular season? No one. They even struggled offensively with Gronkowski injured. If no one can step in when a player gets injured or needs a rest, I consider it depleted. This is why they loaded up on receiver this offseason. To add depth.

Ridley, imo. Strong, tough as nails, and can bowl people over.

I think Belichek will use Ridley and Vareen as a Thunder/Lightning approach. From a hobby angle the Lightning usually gets the most props.

I think that Belichick likes Ridley more, he has used him more with BJGE on the team and Vereen didn't see much time so I think that says something. The only downside to Ridley is the couple of fumbles he had late in the year...personally I think Ridley has a better chance but it could go either way.

Vereen had a hamstring injury at the beginning of camp and nagged him all year long. Ridley performed well when given opportunities, but doesn't carry the ball "high and tight" and gives plenty of opportunities to get stripped.
Ultimately, it's BB and who knows who he'll feature from week to week. Vereen has the big play ability with his speed and elusiveness. Ridley will get the goal line touches. The hobby tends to reward the big playmakers over the TD vulchers. However, as someone else stated, it could be a "thunder and lightning" approach. I think they both will have good games and see some hobby love. I've bought plenty of both .

I'd say neither. You watch. Somehow Belichik will get the Vikings to trade a gimpy Adrian Peterson to New England for some magic beans or no longer used video equipment.

Patriots are not a running team. I imagine it will be difficult for either to have a "breakout" year for a team who is likely to throw the ball 40 times a game.

I am also on the Neither bandwagon. Watching them week in and week out you just don't know who is going to carry the ball or how many times. Since they lost dillon and drafted maroney, it's been a musical chair of running backs. I thought LawFirm was solid and was shocked they didn't keep him for the little amount of money it would have taken to keep him. If everyone on offsense is healthy, I see them passing and passing and passing like the 18-1 season, and running at the end when it's needed for the cold or stonger defensive teams.

well with BenJarvus Green-Ellis gone, it opens the door for both backs to play a lot more and although BJGE only had 667 yards last year with 11 TDs, he did have 1,008 yards with 13 TDs the year before, so if either Ridley or Vereen can bring that production this year, I'd be happy with those numbers...
