Just curious what you guys thought. I have a few of his NT /99's right now, but unsure whether he's a sell or hold. Of course Broncos have Manning now, but I'm not sure how they could help Miller's hype unless the team as a whole goes deep into the playoffs or goes on an epic winning streak like the packers.
Miller is a beast but seems like the hobby just doesn't really appreciate defensive players as much these days. Think there's still room for growth in the hobby with this guy? Thanks in advance |

Little room for growth IMO. Like you said defensive players get no love, and the issue with Miller is that he has none of the features going for him that make those rare defensive guys actually valuable.
He's not a DB and for whatever reason the top defensive guys in terms of popularity tend to be DB's like Troy Polamalu and Darrelle Revis. He also has signed a ton of cards. Most guys like Charles Woodson get crazy hobby love because they have very few autographed cards. He also isn't coming out of nowhere, his value and hype were already up due to being a really good prospect and a really high draft pick. So you don't have the come out of nowhere style emergence that can really spike values. I'd wait to see if they can find some success with Manning, but as soon as they start winning and it's Manning talk all over the news, dump them.

Hold if you have a few of those cards because you like the player, why not hold them. He is a beast and unless becomes injury prone, he will have an excellent career in the NFL.
Sell if you want to make money because like the last guy said, the next time his cards go up is when he wins Super Bowl MVP, HOFer or turns into a white guy with long blonde hair and changes his number to #52. |

Ding Ding Ding! Bingo. It takes alot to sell for more. Honestly, the player dieing is the best chance of the cards really going up. Its a terrible thing, but it escalates the cards prices?

i mean i collect the guy and to sell now would be the worst time, this kid is an absolute raw specimen that got 11.5 sacks in 12 games then an injury.
all of his sacks came off of pure skill and talent where some say he has yet to learn a lot of techniques (aka a very large ceiling off of his already great career) the guy missed no tackles in his rookie season runs as fast as larry fitzgerald oh and not to mention he did all of this with no training camps or OTA's IMO the road for him is going to be legendary and itll reward the ones who held on to his cards too for those nimrods saying defense doesnt hold value let alone the linebacker position i got two letters for you: L and T baby |

I would hold for now. I think this year he'll get more exposure and his hobby value will increase. #52 on NFL top 100 as a rookie. He's a beast but, despite being NFL Def ROY, he doesn't have the street cred of a Clay Mathews just yet.
I'm expecting his play to continue to rise this year. Manning will certainly help his value. Teams with high powered offenses force the opposing offense to pass more, which gives more opportunities for sacks and ints. Look for him to pop in value around mid-season. I would say hold for now but sell when that happens. Once the hype hits, his card values will peak. While most defensive players' cards don't have as much value as offensive guys, they can still go up in value once they get a little buzz. |

Second year defensive player value will not increase. Who is the best defender in the entire league? Maybe Darrelle Revis? What do his patches sell for ? $10 if your lucky, usually less. His autos, not much more. Defensive players do not hold there value. Sell them before his value drops even more

Check out the values on Mario Williams's stuff, his highest prices were when he first came into the league. Even after an awesome career, another couple of solid seasons will get him into the Hall, his card value dwindles.
Say Von Miller is the next LT, just wait another 8 years or so and you'll get these cards for $20. |

Pertty much agree with everyone else. Would you be happy if he's as productive as other recent Pro Bowl LBs like Terrell Suggs, Jerod Mayo, Jon Beason, Lance Briggs, or even Broncos great Tom Jackson? Look up their recent eBay sales and if you're happy with what you see then take take a chance.
The other poster who mentioned death as a factor for propping prices is correct, assuming the player had a great career. Look at what posthumous values have been on Derrick Thomas and Reggie White. |

I do not see the point in picking these /99 up. To me when something can be had easily it is not worth having at all. I can go to ebay and complete the whole set today if I wanted to complete it. I would rather pay up and go after the /5 or /25 that will be harder to find down the road. That IMO is the better flip, cards that never show their head but once a year or two.
And I would sell this season, go after lower # stuff personally |
