Chargers signed QB Philip Rivers to a six-year, $92 million extension through 2015.
$38-39 million is guaranteed. The Giants guaranteed Eli Manning $35M, but his annual average is $16.25M. Rivers' is only $15.33M, making it a pretty good deal for GM A.J. Smith. Rivers doesn't have the ring, but is clearly the superior passer in terms of accuracy, efficiency, and aggressiveness. Eli might have a stronger arm, but Rivers is much better going down the field. You might be right on that pskell02!!! A guy who throw's for 4,000 yards every year and
25+ touchdowns but never wins the big game. only time will tell but as of last year they started throwing the ball alot more!!!! I think he is underrated!! when i picked him in my fantasy draft everyone laughed at me but i think i will have the last laugh!!! |

Check the Chargers' record in December and later in the past 3 years - 14-0 with a 3-3 record in the playoffs ... and they have far exceeded expectations in the playoffs because of injuries (most notably the fact that LT has been hurt both of the last 2 years & Merriman was out after 1 game last year).
The comment about 3 playoff wins in 6 years - Rivers has only been the starter for 3 years - so very bad analysis. Rivers is worth so much more than Eli, in my opinion ... Eli has a ring but he was clearly not the reason they won it. Rivers has single-handedly won 3 playoff games the past 2 years ... where he was THE KEY REASON. He has out-dueled Peyton both of the last 2 years ... PERIOD. Tell me one game where Manning led his team to victory when it counted? Comparing Rivers to Marino? Just ridiculous - if you don't think Marino was one of the best QBs of all time (he was a victim of his teams, circumstances, etc.), you know nothing about football. Rivers has only been a starter for 3 years and has done nothing but put up phenomenal numbers and carries the team on many occasions. What about Elway before his final 2 years? He could have easily retired as a non-SB winner, but rode great "TEAMS" to both of those titles - yes, he was very instrumental, but they were definitely team efforts. |

He's WIDELY recognized as one of the top 5 QBs in the league - and will only get better with experience and the fact that LT is getting older (so they'll throw the ball more). |

It definitely helps to have a solid running game, O-line and defense. Last year was Eli Manning's first real good year statistically with 10 INT's, but I don't think he ever puts up yards/TD numbers like the big guns...That team would be sick with Rivers if they're already dangerous with Manning...

TK, don't get me wrong, I think Rivers is a fantastic top tier QB. I just see him as another guy that puts up big numbers but can't win when it matters. I could be proven wrong though, it just the way I see his career going. My biggest concern for him is his maturity level and his ego taking over. That scene where he was mocking the opposing team pops into mind. I had forgotten that he didn't start his first 3 years, so that stat is probably irrelevant.
As far as my Marino comment goes, that was no disrespect to him. IMO he is in the top 3 all time to play the position. The teams he played for didn't exactly help his cause a whole lot. And with Manning, I think he is the most overrated QB in the NFL. So don't think that I even consider him and Rivers in the same league.

Its funny when people talk about PRs competitive nature....all they know about is 2 instances where the media machine got a camera on him and the media jumped all over it.
The 1ST one was him congratulating his defense for terrorizing Jay "Crybaby" Cutler and it may have looked as if he was taunting JCC but IMO he was only being competitive and as I said congratulating the Defense. Its a shame we may never see how this one plays out as JCC wanted nothing to do with battling PR and the Bolts in the AFC west for years to come and demanded out of Denver. The second was in Indy on a torn ACL (with which he played on the following week in the AFC championship game) cameras on him as PR told the fans which he ackowleged later not a good idea that he would be back as he was. PR father of 4 a devote Christian who does not as much as curse, highly competitive yes... immature not so much. Its been reported that he intervened in the recent negotiations to get the deal done before the season started as for it not to be a distraction this season. IMO PR is only guilty of wanting to compete
