Default J.J. Watt for MVP?

It has been a long time since a defensive player won NFL MVP.

Do you think it will happen?

Simply.....no...
but to explain my opinion. The league is more of a Numbers league now. Yes JJ Watt will have monster numbers which will help him get Defensive player of the year, but im sure a QB will win the MVP again, like Rodgers or Brees (I hope brees ) because of the numbers they put up at their position. It seems like MVP is more of a Offense type Award. But who knows. If JJ Watt keeps up his numbers he may do it.

If the Texans have the league's best record and Watt breaks the sack record, then I think he is in the conversation.

I don't think he will win it, but the guy is a freak of nature...... his play is awesome to say the least.

He would have to break the sack record, be DPOY, be on a Texans squad with the best record and they'd have to have the best record. Even then, he'd have votes sponged away by Arian Foster.

What are the chances of Eli Manning ever winning the MVP? I wish he would cut down on his picks. The Big Blue beat Washington last week but Eli was off except for when it counted ala the 77 yard bomb to VCruz.

Sorry for going off topic but yes Watt is a monster and if he continues destroying offensive lines and qb's as he has been doing he will be considered. The one thing about the kid that annoyed me was the BS discount double check after he sacked Rodgers who went on to toss 6 td's and torch their defense but the kid will learn.

I thought about that, but Strahan didn't win MVP when he borke sack record, or Jared Allen when he almost broke it

Yep, and those guys were on a better sack pace than Watt

Almost zero. He would have to demolish the sack record (i.e. 30+), Texans have best record in the league, and Arian Foster has to get injured so he doesnt absorb votes. It's a QB league, and it will inevitably go to another this year. Brees, Brady, and Rodgers are all in the convo in that regard. The only newbie to the list this year might be Matt Ryan. IF he resumes his early season stat hauling, and the Falcons end up tops in the NFC, I'd be betting he gets it.

hmmm, RGIII is one of the best QBs right now. Best Completion %, best Y/A, the Redskins are 5th in points scored.

As a Texan's fan, he is definitely the MVP of the Texans. But he has about the same chance as an offensive lineman winning the Heisman trophy to win the NFL MVP.

It is an award only given to players that touch the ball.

I don't remember the Giants record, but the Vikes were one of the worst teams in the league.

If the Redskins D didn't suck so bad they would be 5-3 or better and people would be talking about RGIII.

Farve laid down and gave him that record, it shouldn't even get mentioned.

I didn't see the game but I know those two are very friendly to each other, I don't think it bothered Rodgers I don't know why it bothers fans. They were seen joking and BS-ing either right before or right after that play according to my wife.
I think its was more of an homage to him then a taunt.

no one's mentioning the number of passes he's tipped?

hasnt that led to and/or saved a ton of points? from what i can remember, he tipped a sanchez pass in the redzone that led to an INT, and last week didnt he tip flacco's pass that led to joseph's pick6?

I believe 4 of his tipped passes have led to interceptions.
