Guy just needs to hang it up

MI Rob 11-02-2012 10:40 PM

I hope he retires already.

jiggidy 11-02-2012 10:41 PM

Heard that on the way home but I really wasn't expecting him to play this year anyway. Hopefully he can get cleared next year to play and give the Lions a speed RB.

With all the concussion talks and safety precautions these days I bet he gets 1 more chance next year. He said he wants to play and would even sign a waiver to get on the field. Unfortunate for him because he has tremendous talent but the Lions knew what they were getting into when they drafted him. Seems like they have been reaching to try to find their marquee RB that has been missing since Barry left.

From the page:
The Lions suffered a huge blow Friday when it was announced that RB Jahvid Best would be lost for the remainder of the season for continuing health issues...
Did the Lions (or fans) really think they were going to get him back?

zonacats8 11-02-2012 10:44 PM

he hasn't been the same ever since he got flipped onto his head at Cal

Dude should just hang it up and thank god that he still has his health, no reason to kill himself by getting on the field again

Writers have these things called required number of words for their articles....

Personally, no I don't expect to see him back on the field. From a fan standpoint, the team is fine without Best and he would remain more of a liability.

Sounds like when I fluffed sentences back in school to get to 500 words or more.

Also from the page:
Best has steadfastly maintained that he has been symptom free for months, and that he has spent the past year doing everything in his power to return to action.
It had been thought that he would be back in some way the last half of the season, but yea, I think its time he retires.

I figured he would at least try and practice with the team or something this year. And I dont really think that he should come back either.

bdubs3316 11-02-2012 10:56 PM

apparently, it's his family and his family doctor that doesnt want him to play. they're afraid for his long term health, which is certainly understandable. the lions were also ok with him gaining another year of eligibility this year.

Surprise, surprise.

Now, us Lions fans can't blame this pick on Matt Millen, can we? :o

Traded up to get him too......

demboys28 11-03-2012 04:23 AM

hes a good back ,but its just crazy how this concussion is still following and affecting his everyday life. hope he does well and plays next year.

roc21 11-03-2012 11:53 AM

yea, if hes still having problems over a year later, he has bigger concerns than when he can play.

Qwasian 11-03-2012 12:14 PM

he runs with absolutely terrible style, I said this year ago, he is going to get himself killed if he continues to play, because he runs full speed into hits, he's extremely fast but he lacks the ability to dodge hits properly and is getting punished on the field when he gets hit, he takes the full impact almost everytime he runs. he never learned the skill of running at angles so you don't get murdered on the tackles.

Block quotes for the win!

JChrist1732 11-03-2012 12:29 PM

I believe that he feels fine and wants to play, but the issue is the doctors and team do not want to be liable if he does go back in and gets another concussion with serious long-term affects. I do not think another half year will change that so I think his career is over.
