Okay why dont you bring up Victor Cruz, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, and Arian Foster up too
Adrian Peterson was selling very well before his prices shot up
and i know for a fact Aaron Rodgers was not selling anywhere near what he is now in 2005 he didnt start until 07 and he didnt sell like crazy until 08

Well said, I put together quite the Deuce McAllister collection after he retired for a tiny fraction of what the cards once went for. But if you have to have the card right now, feel free to throw money away!

The Linsanity craze anyone? He was all over Sportscenter and it was enough to make his cards astronomically high.

That idea is a bit flawed
if you are gunna go with a global market what about hockey?
it is the second largest worldwide sport behind soccer
i dont see their prices extremely high
i can get the best defenseman in the nhls auto for 5 bucks at card shows

that's because hockey is played with a puck and basketball is played with a hoop, like um, duh!!! hoops sell better than pucks.

Actually, his point was valid. Hockey is primarily a big sport in America, Canada, and Eastern Europe. And not everyone has the climate or access to a hockey rink to even begin to develop a personal connection or interest to the sport.

Contrast that with basketball...pretty much anywhere you go in the world, you can find a basketball hoop within a 1 block radius from you.

And sorry to say it, but Asia is probably the second biggest if not the biggest collectors of sportscards next to America. Combine this with China's burgeoning economy and their insane love of basketball and you'll easily see why high end basketball cards have experienced an astronomical rise in price lately.

I understand. For those who absolutely have no clue about basketball cards or have been out of the loop for awhile, it's hard to believe. But trust me, basketball is THE cash cow, out of all the sports. Baseball prospecting would be a distant second, and football would be third. But basketball just crushes everything.

If you wait till they're 30 a PC collector will snatch those up a long time ago... That doesn't work.

cards are like turnstyles. You just need to patient most always come back around. Especially with all the products out now and the number variances. There is enough to go around. However 30 was a joke/stretch but none of these guys will ever sniff the hall so it is better to wait.

I do agree with you on the certified black duals. Just FUGLY. The luster of that set is long gone

I only collect football but there's no doubt that Bball is by far the biggest cash cow and baseball would be second. I would even argue that hockey might be third instead of football. The problem with football is that it's largely an American only collected sport (obviously there's foreigners who collect it as well but not nearly as much as any other sport) and there isn't any player(s) who have astronomical value after their rookie year. Bball has Kobe, MJ, Durant and a bunch of others that always sell extremely well. Baseball has a ton of old school legends who always comman a ton of money (Mantle, Ruth, Clemente) and prospecting is huge. Hockey has Crosby, Gretzky, Howe, Ovechkin and a few others. In football there's a ton of great players who sell for more than the average football player but I don't think anybody would be on an MJ, Ruth or Gretzky level of value.

I would actually tell you that you aren't far off.

Basketball is much more popular worldwide because it is easier to pick up and play (keep in mind, I said play, not be good). Basketball reaches a much broader base because it is much easier to access for everyone. Hockey is an expensive sport (relative to basketball and soccer) and not everyone has access to ice to play.

Same reason that soccer is so popular.... Kids can play anywhere with a field or dirt patch. Both are cheap (relatively speaking) to get into and kids, who eventually become adults, love to follow their favorite players.
