25 Ruined Master Cases of Topps Chrome Ruined

Local Card Shop got a call from their distributor they received waterlogged cases that were severely damaged.

Twenty Five total master cases ruined just from one distributor, wonder what good hits will never show up.

My LCS burned down last year, cases were damaged by fire and smoke and were soaking wet from the fire hoses. Guess what? We opened the boxes and every single card was dry as a bone and in perfect shape. If someone was smart they would try to buy those cases dirt cheap and reap the benefits.

hopefully they get sent back to Topps to see what was in there, imagine if the RG3 or Luck super was in one of those boxes

Guess I never thought of it, but with them being sealed in the wraps, the packs could probably be submerged in water and might still stay dry.

And just re-read the original post, it says the distributor got them with water damage, which would mean wherever they were shipped from Topps probably had other issues with cases that went to other distributors, could mean a lot more cases are ruined.

That would be true if the cases were "In Transit" when the storm hit and possibly caught people off guard, but these were not shipped until a week after the storm, meaning somebody had to package them up for UPS to pick up. You'd think someone along the line would notice 250 lbs of soaking wet boxes and stop shipment before it got all the way to the customer.

Story seems fishy to be honest. You tend to hear these types of things when cases go from $750 to $1200 before release even hits.

Unfortunately, what store thought as well. But they were sent a copy of the UPS Claim Form they filled, copy of the email from Topps stating send them back, pictures and other documentation.

Would assume Topps will open the inner boxes and see if the sealed ones are ok and repackage them out.

Was thinking the same thing. You could throw them in a pool and let them soak for a few days, I bet they would be just fine.

Are u talking about pack rats? I loved that place. Any clue how to get ahold of the owner? I want to find out if the auto Raiders helmet he had was damaged or not I was going to buy it the week after it caught fire :'(

It happens every single HOT release. There are a few BO members here who deal directly with distributors and we always hear these kinds of stories. People come on here and brag about how they locked in 10 cases of Bowman Jumbo and then they come on here the week before release with "I was allocated 6 boxes due to Topps' shady allocations" or some nonsense like that. It's all a game.

Funny I buy from BO, DA, and my local shop all the time in quantities of 4-6 cases and have NEVER had an order cut or destroyed. It's all about who you deal with.

Definitely something not right about them being 'ruined', I had a plastic bin in my garage that had 6 unopened boxes of various Collectors Edge(because Peyton was on all the boxes), the bin got almost completely filled with water coming from two coolers leaking melted ice water, anyhow they sat for about 6 months and only two boxes had water get in through the outer shrink wrap, but all the packs in those two boxes were fine(and both had Curtis Enis autos in them, yay!) Those Topps Chrome Boxes are absolutely openable.

Hey guys I just talked to my LCS. We had our first frost of the year and 200 master cases 40 of which he is sure had Andrew Luck autos in them have been ruined by the deep freeze.

The cards are protected by the plastic seal on the hobby box and foil packs..... Seems like the cards could still be in good shape, just that the distributor might not want to take any chances
