I kind of want to see where people sit on whether or not chrome retail or hobby is the better choice and why.
I haven't pulled anything nice out of either so I'm kind of on the fence for this one

Don't buy the Wal-Mart Blasters with the Jersey per box, no shot at autos at all.
Buy racks and blasters from other sources. I have bought one hobby box, three blasters and 5 racks. I have pulled far more color out of the blasters. I pulled a Gold Hillman out of one. Although, I did get pretty lucky, all four of my refractors out of my hobby box were numbered less than 299.

both have strong points.......
what I like about retail, you can buy as needed/interested. you can try out something with $10 or $20 and take a chance on a decent card.... you don't have to jump out the window around $100 for a box. if you could care less about lower end cards and aren't really in the market to try and sell or collect those, it's hobby all the way, you gotta chase the big hits. I personally like to buy a little retail, sell it, buy some more, sell it, buy some more, sell it..... etc....... and if nothing sells don't buy anymore....... with hobby, I typically have to order it, so if I'm going to buy, i'm buying a case or more. and I just feel like cases consume so much of my time, it's like once I open em, I think, alright now I gotta try and move all this crap, lol. it's typically too much at once when I buy cases.

For me I have done way better in retail. Out of 20 packs of retail I pulled 2 sp's (Doug Martin and Andrew Luck) Out of the 2 hobby boxes I broke today my best 2 hits were a redemption for a Brian Quick auto and a Posey auto.
So retail all the way for me if I buy anymore chrome

If buying retail stick to the racks. I bought 6 rack packs and will be able to recoup most of my expenses. Pulled a red refractor and an auto (not of best players though). Got a bunch of decent base RC, inserts, and refractors. The blaster the only thing of note was the Blackmon jersey (one color) and a devon wylie purple refractor.

I think it depends on price. Blowout is at $1175 for a Hobby case today. If the choices were $1175 for 12 boxes of hobby or the same amount on retail I would be buying out every store in town! Across the board odds are pretty much similar on most of the hits so you can expect auto parallels to fall about the same with the exception of Prism, Red, Super, which are all hobby exclusive, but you'd hit far more non-auto color than hobby.
Both are good buys depending on price point. |
