At times I find the romanticization of the past a bit contradictory with this situation.

I have come across many people who say that, "the good old days are where it's at," and tout the circumstances of the record as grittier or more 'real', yet are now undermining it as a mere number when someone in this day and age is threatening to surpass it.

So do the Vikings. Considering he went for 210 the last time they played, nothing is out of reach.

True, but they are not going to just run him 35 times unless they have a lead. If they are behind they will be passing a lot which is really bad with ponder lol...

Definitely going to be a hard task considering the challenged he faced against the Texans...personally, I think its out of reach because the Vikings need a win for their playoff picture, so its not like they will be giving him a huge amount of touches like most thought. They will need to do whatever they need to do in order to win, honestly.

But, hey...if anybody has a shot, its certainly AP

For me the list is Payton, Sanders, Bo, Smith and Peterson. If Bo or Sanders had kept playing who knows...

Smith had the yardage but I didn't find him exciting to watch. LT was more exciting than Emmitt.

I hope AP breaks the record, his work ethic is amazing.

If Sanders would have kept playing the record would have been so far out of reach no one would have ever reached it. Amazing thing is he was on a crappy team, put him behind the dallas o line and good lord who knows how many yards he would have gotten...

20 carries will not get it done

only way he gets 30-40 carries is if they are ahead...they go down 14-0 i say his chances are slim to none...plus he had abdominal issues late last week so who knows...

21 carries 210 yards first meeting, 24 for 212 a few weeks later. I'm not saying he will repeat the performance, just saying break one long one and it's game on.

Down by 14 in the 4th quarter, yes. Down by 14 at any other point in the game, they still run. Ultimately IMO it will fall on Ponder being able to convert some third downs in order for him to even have a chance.

Less than 24 hours until the ultimate test...

Considering the Vikings are playing for playoffs and not just for no reason, I don't think it will happen.

But we shall see!

Very true. If anybody can do it, AP can...but considering that teams always put the team's needs in front of an individual's, I doubt AP will be getting the 30+ carries everyone thinks he will get.

If they are down by 21 or something, I guarantee they won't be trying to break the record or anything.

GB has too much to gain. I see them jumping up on the Vikings early and AP doesn't quite get there. I see him breaking 2K no problem though.

Being a Packer fan, AP can have his record for all I care...we'll take a first round bye in the playoffs

on a more thoughtful note, I can see AP getting to maybe 175 but no more than that, the Packers D has stepped up especially last week.

I think this could be really close...close as in within a couple yards.

I feel like if the game goes to overtime, AP has a great shot at breaking the record.

If not, it could be very difficult unless he breaks a huge run.

He'd need to take it to the house from this point or hope they don't gain another yard as they're just about in FG range and then no OT
