In most years, like 2011, I think he would be a 2nd - 3rd rounder, but with no slam dunk QB prospects he will end up as a #1. I think the Chiefs would be nuts to take him #1 overall.

I know they need a QB, but they need EVERYTHING! Pick up a FA QB for a 2 year deal and let the franchise grow on the line before you throw a rookie to the wolves ala David Carr.

KC ALWAYS picks up FAs and doesn't work. End of story. They need their own QB

The years of using other team's trash is OVER. It is time for new blood and that new blood shall be Eugene "Geno" Smith. By late next week, if everything goes correctly, there will be a new GM and Head Coach in place at #1 Arrowhead drive, and the personal contents of the lockers of Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn will be boxed up so they can be mailed to their respective homes. Yes, a new era is finally at hand.

When was the last time WVU produced a good NFL player that lasted more than a few seasons?

I don't see the mental make-up for him to succeed. However, those things can sometimes be fixed, and I don't doubt his talent.
On another note, Glennon from NC State is going to be a very good professional QB. (Poor man's Eli?) I think some teams will fall in love with him and he will go very high. He's the only QB who's mental make-up is strong out of the guys being considered early.

Stock isn't an indication of success. If KC is hell bent on drafting a QB, take Glennon, or even Barkley. Geno is not a player who can deal with adversity or tough situations. KC will eat him alive, and the Chiefs will be set back another couple years.

I would like the chiefs to trade down 1 or 2 times in the first round to stock pile picks, then draft some talent along the defensive line and maybe pick a quarterback in the 2nd round. I believe there is no quarterback worth wasting a first round pick on. I also believe there is a quarterback out in S.F. that is serviceable that can get us to were we need to get to.
This is the time to think this draft through and not make any bad or hasty decisions. I think by sticking to our guns and being patient we can land 2 to 4 good to great players in this draft.
I think it will be a mistake going into this draft thinking we only need a quarterback the fans deserves better than Geno.

Like others have said...he shouldn't be a first round pick but he will be. Also like it's been said KC can't afford a busted first round draft pick...and neither can the Buffalo Bills at this point. If KC bypasses him..look for the Bills to grab him...if they don't do something even dumber and sign Vick.

If I'm an NFL team in the late first round, I'm taking Matt Barkley all day long.

yeah it's a pretty pathetic draft class this year when geno smith (who should be a 3rd or 4th rd pick) may be in the top 5. I just feel bad for Arizona if they draft him and think he's gonna be the answer

No way KC waits to draft a QB. Trade down and get Glennon later in first. No way hound KC wait to draft a QB though if the class is already weak. And NOOOOO on taking Alex smith, we always get SF QBs they don't want. And NOOOO on DLine first round pick. They are steadily improving, even Poe hasn't looked bad. They CAN'T waste their picks.

Geno is a stud! Watch what he does in the NFL next year.

Yup, it'll be easy to see him with a backwards cap and a clipboard

Pretty comical to see some of the homer posts in here...

dey needz a QB...must haz a QB...dont give me your logic we needz to haz to haz a QB!!

look...Geno is talented and will probably succeed in the NFL, eventually.

But something that has been pointed out over and over and over again...he seems to lack either:

the awareness, or the quickness to read through his progressions in a timely manner.

The bread and butter on offense is Jamaal Charles and if they keep him Hillis.

Build the O Line to bolster the run game and protect the QB (Joeckel is a stud if he declares and is the only fit at #1).

Or..as others have said, trade down for other picks..and youll still be able to land Barkley, Wilson Bray, Glennon.
