Default Percentage of budget you use on cards

I see a lot of people just absolutely stocking up on these rare 1/1 cards and the like.
Not going to be too invasive and ask how much anyone makes, but I would just like to get an idea of how much you budget to yourself for cards.

I am just curious if the people that buy the big money cards are big money makers or just happen to be able to put a higher percentage of their monthly budget to cards, because they do not have a lot of other expensive hobbies, or live well below their means in other areas, etc.

I just got back into the hobby, so it is hard for me to say how much I would budget myself. Haven't really got into enough of a groove to figure that out.

I don't spend a dime on my paycheck. I sell things I already have or flip stuff. Only other money that goes to cards if birthday and Christmas money. When money runs dry, I always find a way to find more.

How would you have had stuff in the first place though if you never spent any money originally?
All of the stuff you would flip was from bday and Christmas?

My cards don't affect my family's finances.

My wife and I take $50 a week "allowance" where we use that money for personal use. Lunch throughout the work week, haircuts, gifts for each other, etc.

So what I don't blow on bad habits and feeding my fat face, I roll into cards.

Pretty sure he's talking about a career oriented job. Doesn't really matter what you spent your Pizza Hut delivery money on when you were in high school

Fair enough.
I would like to wager on sports, but heart gets in the way of my brain too often for that. Hard for me to differentiate who I want to win from who I think will win.

If I had to depend on money left over after feeding my fat face, I would never get any cards.

Which is why I asked.
Just trying to get a better idea of what he/she meant.

I guess it's kind of like prospecting. If for example you hate the Cowboys, you can't not invest in Dez Bryant if you think he'll make you money.

Same with wagering. I've probably made $10k betting AGAINST my teams over the years.

I had a big collection of cards from growing up. I've almost burnt through selling all of it now. All of the low-end stuff that is left is on COMC and brings me like $20 a month.

I also have tons of autographs from in person and through the mail from over the years. Some more valuable than you would think. Those are still going strong. Probably have a few thousand in autographed photos left.

Once that money runs out, we'll see. I usually end up with $200-300 from Christmas and around $150 for my birthday, so that's a solid amount. I never bust wax, which is the #1 reason that I always have money in my card account. I only buy stuff that I really need for my OSU collection because I know just about the time I buy something dumb, something really expensive for my OSU collection will pop up. Christmas just passed and I had some good sales before it, so I have about $700 in my card account right now. That should last me a good while.

I spend what I feel like spending. My wife knows that as long as I'm paying the bills and making sure she's happy I can basically spend as much as I want (see my MJD collection haha)

To me, one of the neat aspects about collecting cards is its marginal interest.

Contrary from most things, if you buy a card, it doesn't lose value from owner to owner...or if its "used" or not.

If you ever decide to abandon the hobby, you know that your cards still will possess a relatively similar value than what you got it for!

I dont use alot of personal money for cards. Bills always get paid first. I just sell a few cards I may not have much intrest in or like a few weeks ago I scanned a bunch of refractors and lower end stuff and put it on her for .25 or .50 a card and made 6 sales for around 65 dollars and got rid of some players or teams I dont collect and gave myself a few bucks to spend. I have a motto, if its sitting in a box collecting dust and I dont collect that player or team, it gets sold. Period. With that 65 dollars I bought a couple sweet pc cards.

No budget, still live at home and im in college. So i just get cheaper things i like for now. (I sell my own drawings and all of that money is what I use on cards) which really helps
