Default 2012 Topps Magic....what a rip-off!

Boy are some people going to be pissed when they see the autograph checklist...

1) No HOF autos....at all. The HOF autographs were the best part of the 2010 set....not a single one in the 2012 set.

2) No superstar autos...no Brady, Peterson, or either of the Mannings....

No wonder Topps didn't release the checklist early....if I had pre-ordered this product, I'd be pretty pissed off, especially given that the sell sheet features a Elway/Luck dual auto and Elway didn't even end up in the set.

The images and names on this sell sheet are subject to change and do not represent the final product by Topps.

Doesn't change the fact that a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

I'm pretty sure a signifcant number of collectors were expecting it to be filled with HOF autos like the 2010 product.

I couldn't care less about RG III and Luck since I only collect HOFers.

But the 2010 set had autos of: Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, Paul Hornung, Joe Namath, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Franco Harris, Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Steve Young, YA Tittle, Ronnie Lott, etc

The sell set for the 2012 set listed Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, John Elway, Jim Brown, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Emmitt Smith, and I think people assumed that autographs of all of these players would be in the set.

Major bait-and-switch by Topps ....

My post was clearly a joke. It would be different if they said for a fact this product contained autographs of those players. Yours and others fault for making assumptions. If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Plain and simple.

That sucks azz.. That's what made the product so far. Way to ruin a good product Topps. I will not buy anymore.

Clearly this 'subject to change' BS is going way too far!

Definitely a huge 2nd year player sticker dump, thank goodness for Kaepernick, that's about it!

Don't worry. I won't be.

My point is two-fold....

First, the presence of HOFers in the sell sheet led everyone to assume that there would be HOF autos in the product, just like in 2010. If you polled collectors, I'm pretty sure that most of them assumed that the product would be filled with HOFers like in 2010. Anybody who bought this product to rip & flip is almost certainly looking at a significant financial loss because of this.

Second, why make a retro-themed product (which Magic certainly is), and then not include the content that would appeal to retro collectors (i.e. HOFers)?

And I have yet to see an Elway Contenders auto that were "Inserted" Personally I look over the check list I see 2 things...Obviously rookie autos but also a mix of young talent who arent in every single product like Brady and the Manning's...

I do hate the old bait and switch. If you can't lock in a player before you print the sale sheet, you shouldn't include them on it.

Trading cards are the only lottery I know of that advertise a certain prize only for you to find out it doesn't exist. Could you imagine your PowerBall ticket having fine print that says "grandy prize subject to change without notice" with you winning a $5,000 jackpot instead of $500m?

Where is this sell sheet at? I'm not seeing that they said those autos would be in the product

The sell sheet didn't specifically state that autos of those players would be in the product, just like it contains the standard "everything subject to change" disclaimer, BUT it strongly implies that they would be given that in 2010, every HOFer in the base set also was in the auto set.

This doesn't piss me off nearly as much as the $hit panini has pulled with Prizm and Contenders

And that was 2 years ago

This isn't 2010's product man

Truthfully they haven't done anything wrong since they didnt put out a checklist before it went live

So what's this thread about again

So you don't have a problem with Topps putting an image of an Elway/Luck dual auto to sell the product and then proceed to not have an Elway auto in the product? I imagine, had they not included that image in the sell sheet then pre-sales of the product would most likely been lower.

Trust me....most of the people who pre-bought this product thought that it would have HOFer autos like in 2010. Massive bait & switch by Topps.

Watch how fast the box prices drop now that the checklist is out and it's been revealed that there are virtually no high value cards....

I would be very surprised if it dropped that much. Topps products have been selling through the roof this year. Not saying its justified from a value perspective, but even if Magic does have a crappy auto checklist the design is nice to the point where Luck/RG3/RW base rookies and inserts will keep ROI from tanking.

This thread is about people who enjoyed this set in years past because it included HOF'ers will now be pissed when they see the autograph checklist for this years set.

No one said Topps did anything wrong.

Let me know if you need any more help.

My LCS has boxes for $100. Is it worth it for that price?? I do like the idea of 3 autos, but just not sure if I'd be better sticking to retail blasters for fun.

I wonder how many of these arguments would be around if people weren't worried about making money on buying boxes of cards.
