Hey guys, this looks like a great site. You shoud be very proud of it.
I'm new to the site. I'm 46 years old, and collected cards when I was younger. It was easier, then, because Topps was the only card company. I got my Elways and Marinos, and Montanas..... My son is now 12 and asking me questions about collecting. I'm very overwhelmed at the volume of things available, and appeal to you guys for help. I suggested that he focus his collection on Rookie Quarterbacks, mostly because that is what I collected 30 yrs ago. He was attracted to the "Inception" cards, so over the past half-year I have helped him to accumulate about 10 such cards. (2Kaepernick Auto, Foles and Wheeden Auto, Luck RG3 Wilson Patch, tanehilll auto)... Recently, I read somewhere that the "Inception" cards were not true rookie cards, but no explanation about that statement was given... I hate to steer his collection towards these cards without seeking the opinions of true collectors.. I thank you in advance for your comments... 1. Are inception cards worth collecting? 2. Are they true rookie cards? 3. Should I have him target something else? |

1) The only problem I have with Inception is the chipping on most cards, other than that I love them.
2) I'm not really sure how you can define a "true" rookie card. In short, Yes. 3) I think aiming at rookie QB's is a pretty good thing to shoot for. Welcome to the boards!

Inception cards are fine. Maybe more of a niche card then, say, Topps Chrome but there is nothing wrong with Inception, especially if you have some on-cards, which in my opinion should hold value much better.

1. Yes very beautiful cards, but only if nice corners
2. No they are true rookies, if issued in the players rookie year then its his rookie card 3. Let him collect what he wants, if he enjoys this hobby and style of card let him do his thing! ![]() Happy collecting!

if the kid likes the cards, who's to say what he should and shouldn't grab.
Some people say they aren't legit because of the airbrushed '00' or blatantly incorrect jersey numbers on the players since Inception comes out before some players get jersey numbers. I would tell your son to figure out which player or team he likes and just focus that way. rookie QB collections are going to be a bit expensive since it seems that most people speculate the most on QB and RB, so those prices are always a bit high. payoff is nice if the guy blows up (ala kaepernick) and you can sell for a huge profit, but if you're just collecting for you, it can be expensive. on the negative side of Inception, the cards are condition sensitive and prone to chipping problems due to the black ink on the white thick stock. side note- is anybody else old enough to remember when we said newbie instead of noob?

Chrome might be a nice one to get him into, but it can get pricey.

I don't mind pricey... They make nice presents for bday and christmas, and nice rewards for good report cards, etc... I just want to collect the right things... He likes the inceptions, but i will look into the "Chrome"
thanks for the help... |
