Wow....that SUCKS! Not a very smart move either those products do well most of the time. Very disappointed as I am a huge Topps Chrome fan!

I think Topps has better products overall than UD. Man, with all the people "boycotting" UD, looks like Panini has huge expectations to live up to now.

Topps>UD....well thats a GIVEN because UD just plain=sucks all the time. Panini isn't what Donruss used to be but they are leaps and bounds ahead of UD still...

sucks for you football guys but for us baseball guys it is awesome! they will be focusing a lot of the attention on very high end and very low end affordable products for every collector! SORRY GUYS!

Guys,

All this means is these companies can't produce these types of cards with the NFL logo and perhaps team names on them. I would bet Topps still produces football cards of some type, (just like UD will produce baseball cards), and eventually licensing won't mean very much.

The writing's on the wall and getting clearer every day.

They lost the agreement with Players, Inc., which to me says the best they could do is manufactured patches of say for Ben Roethlisberger, a No. 7, in black and gold without his name which would be garbage. Not sure how it affects draft products.

No, Topps lost the Players Inc. license, so they can't use the players at all. So no unlicensed stuff. UD still has the MLBPA license, so they can do that.

True. All it means is they can't picture the player and team/NFL logos on the cards...they'll just have to get creative..just not retarded like UD. Players inc?

Oh well, more non-liscensed stuff will be produced and eventually dumped like Donruss baseball products in 2008.
Surprised to see Topps take the fall but they've been surviving on tradition and name for some time now. They haven't put much effort in any release since Eisner took over and their customer service blows.

I still think one of the 3 majors will go under before the economy gets back on track.

Hmmm...Sportkings is not licensed by anyone, yet they do it and do it well.

They use incredible game-used patch pieces in many of their cards, and the cards state, "...not affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed, or licensed by or connected to Major League Baseball or Major League Baseball Players' Association"; "...National Hockey League or National Hockey Players' Association"; "...National Football League or National Football League Players' Association".

I'm not disappointed. Yeah, hate to see that happen, but I really don't care. Not a fan of Topps.

Topps Chrome is my favorite product of all time. I'm very upset that Topps would let something like this happen. However, business is business. Now it will be easier for me to complete every Topps Chrome set without having to keep up with the next year's release. I'm sad but happy at the same time.

I don't understand how they do it, but I assume you're referring to a card like this?

It would depend on what the NFL players are legally allowed to do. By being in the NFLPA, pretty much all of them sign the group licensing agreement, which might restrict their abilities to sign individual deals with Topps to do anything with a potential unlicensed product until they retire.

The only good thing that can come out of this it means Topps has more time in the winter to secure autographs for the upcoming year's baseball products which means no 6 or 7 redemptions per case right? Right?
