Default How can the hobby last with things like this...

I'm a Giants fan. This weekend I bought a David Wilson Valor 2 color RPA/26 and a Rueben Randle Valor 2 color RPA/26

It's my understanding that these are the CASE HITs for Valor. 1 per case. The most sought after card type in the set.

Total price dlvd = $68 dollars

Less than half the price of a single box! I don't think I got some crazy low price, I just think this is about what these go for. Granted, these 2 guys aren't Luck, Wilson, or RGIII but they had solid rookie years and play for a team with a decent following.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE busting wax but this year has been such a beat down for me on box value that I've become really soured on it.

I know this isn't a new phenomenon but it just seemed like a brand new low for the hobby when each of these sold for 1/4 of what a full box would have cost. I just don't understand how box prices can be sustained when the results of those boxes sell for so little.

buying singles is just the way to go, i get the "thrill" and all but how many times does someone lose money on a box? People spend $150 on a box and get $40 in sales from it,or you can get a patch auto of a HOFer....

Personally I enjoy it...I don't buy new stuff because it's insanely priced, if I have a busting urge I'll buy a case of 91 wild card draft for what you pay for a box nowadays...I like everyone else wasting their money, pulling Barry Sanders auto's #'d /10 or less that I pay under $150 for...let the suckers spend the money, I'll buy the singles

agree the market is oversaturated and by that I mean there seems to be 10 1/1 cards for every player in every set now days. You got the plates regular and auto versions and then there is always some other random 1/1 insert.

People have the misconception that because they have a supposed 1/1 that it should be worth hundreds and thousands of dollars and maybe that would be the case if it was the only 1/1 of that player. There IMO isn't a card made in today's market that should go for more than $100-$150 max I don't care who it is or what it's numbered to. And from the looks of Ebay SOLD auctions a lot of people see it the same way.

The card market sucks. You used to be able to break a new product the day of release and get a decent return if you were one of the first to get it on ebay. Doesn't matter anymore because there is SO much supply out there. Topps and Panini and pumping out tons of cases on multiple products every week. The hobby is headed to the toilet and we will all be witnesses.

I can't help but think the bubble is going to burst in the next few years. It might happen this upcoming year with the terrible draft class. People are going to stop busting wax at the current prices. The card companies can't afford to lower prices because of how much they pay to the pro leagues. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the companies got into some trouble, most notably Panini with their diluted and overpriced stuff. Topps has been diluting too, but they've also been around FOREVER. I imagine they have a decent backbone if something like that happened. I don't have the same faith in Panini.

Chris did a 2-box Supreme break the other day and the two "hits" were quad jersey cards.

Guy spent almost $200 on those boxes and got probably $8 worth of cards

The market will crash again in the next couple of years. Unfortunate, but that is what is going to happen. Over supply and low demand is going to kill this hobby.

It is not crap products that are the problem. It is the amount of crap products. Basketball has only panini, yet most cards bring premium because bkb only has 17 products out. Go to football this year there are like 75 from all the companies

also mentioned, andrew luck has someone said like 17,000 RC autos, not counting promo cards etc..that to me is staggering...how many autos did Peyton, Rodgers, brees, and brady have their rookie year??? yet we compare a contenders auto of luck to a contenders auto of them, not even close

Im guessing over 75% of the people who bust wax, just bust to resell after. Thus prices are low due to the supply being high. The low prices reflect the lack of collector's in the hobby. If only 25% of people busted to just sell than they would kill it and make money on almost everything.

I dont bust wax just to sell.. But i do bust wax in the hopes that i can keep a couple cards from my box for my pc and sell off the rest to recoupe some cost and do it all again. Unfortunately thats not possible. I think the card companies need ti be limited a bunch on how many products they can release per year. The reason nothing holds value is because there is a new product released almost every 2 weeks if not less.. So soon as somethin new comes out prices of last weeks stuff drops major. And yea this is my first couple months back in the hobby and at first i was hyped up about cards being #d and sp'd but after a few months ive been starting to get the feeling that its the 90s all over again cuz despite cards being sp'd #d and whatever else.. The fact of the matter is that card companies are creating the same issue by releasing so many damn products that the autos/rookies all that jazz are truely not limited at all and were back to the 90s all over again.

Well if this dont cure you from busting wax, nothing will.

I got all of these for $235

2010 Topps Peak Performance Auto John Elway $70
2010 Topps Peak Performance Auto Eli Manning Auto $60
2010 Triple Threads Triple Auto/GU Steven Jackson/MJD/Frank Gore /27 $55
2008 Topps Finest Moments Dual Auto/15 Lawrence Taylor/Randall Cunningham $50

All 4 of these cards combined is $85 cheaper then a 2012 Bowman Sterling box which Blowout has listed at $320 a box.

Close your eyes for 10 seconds and then open them and you will see the light
You could get all 4 of these cards and have $85 in your pocket.

Dang Crystal that Taylor/Cunningham dual must be out of this world. Never would have imagined both of them being on the same card.
