Default Chris Berman leaving ESPN?

Wow,their football coverage might be watchable now if he leaves

ESPN analyst personality Chris Berman's contract with the World Wide Leader is set to expire in three months. Two reports have surfaced linking him to potential openings elsewhere.

According to Sports by Brooks, Direct TV "is in full pursuit of the longtime broadcaster."

Brooks hears that Direct TV approached Berman about a pre- and post-game opportunity involving the Red Zone Channel, which is currently hosted by Andrew Siciliano.

Berman would also work with Dan Patrick on a to-be-launched sports channel. Patrick is already involved with Direct TV, hosting a radio show that is simulcast on the network's Channel 101.

Meanwhile, The Big Lead reported Monday evening that NFL Network "is putting the full court press" on Berman for an undisclosed opportunity. Berman is reportedly still very close with NFLN President Steve Bornstein after the two worked together at ESPN in the 1980s.

Berman, of course, would have to give up covering baseball for the latter opportunity.

Brooks adds that ESPN is expected to make a "reasonable" pitch to retain Berman, but "will not break the bank to keep him."

Berman, 54, has been at ESPN since 1979.

NFL Network and ESPN trade??

Scheffter for Berman. Think ESPN loses there since they already have Mort.

I always liked Berman...know many who can't stand him. Do like Scheffter too but do you really need two guys working the NFL insider beat?

No stay, Whop! I love Berman. I guess it really doesn't matter though. I'd just watch him on the NFL network anyways. I just don't think ESPN would be the same, or as good, without him.

"Back, back, back, back!"
"He, could, go, all, the, way!'

Dude, Chris Berman he's the man, such a crazy personality. "C'MON MAN!" It's gonna be unfortunate because out of all the sportscasters he's the funniest.

Give me Boom over Madden any day. If you could take a set of pinking shears to someones vocal cords, it would be Madden. I cried tears of joy when he retired

Berman and ESPN are like peas and carrots. All though.....Peter Gammons left ESPN for the MLB Network so maybe ESPN is cleaning out the old guys. Don't watch it nearly as much as I used to but I have noticed some new faces (mostly ladies) that I don't know from before.

They need to give the guy that does All Night on the radio his own daily show. That guy is great, but his name is escaping me right now.

Edit: Jason Smith is his name. He's real good.

Boomer seems like e very nice man BUT he is the most annoying sportscaster on air. His act became tiring after the first few times hearing it and now we have to hear those catch phrases on commercials and ads. He is ok when he is giving information as he is knowledgeable but after that..whew! I will not miss him on ESPN and I think they will be better for it.

Hasn't Schefter been with ESPN all season? Him and Mort do segments Sunday morning together.

Just when I found this thread I got so excited 'til I got to this news. I guess since Berman's "one of the originals" they just can't let him go. At least he only does a few baseball games a year and the HR Derby, and I can ignore his segments/halftime shows during the football season.

Edit: He's gonna do the US Open???? Are you kidding me???? I thought Mike Tirico and Scott Van Pelt were the lead golf guys. Also, golf announcers are supposed to be "soft" voices. Berman is the complete opposite.

I hope he leaves. I didn't think anyone could irritate me more than Madden.
