Default What is a true rainbow?

I have all of the 2011 topps chrome jake locker refractors except the super. I know that is required for a complete rainbow. But how about the printing plates? Do they help complete the rainbow? I picked up the cyan printing plate

I think that's preference, but I've never thought of the printing plates being part of a rainbow. some people don't even consider them true 1/1's

Good point. They are not refractors but they are true 1/1's as they are stamped by the company. What are the uses of the 3 types? Mine is the cyan, I think there are yellow and magneta too.

There's a black plate also. 4 plates, 4 1/1's.

I've always considered the plates like an added bonus to a rainbow since they are not really cards. If I can land one or two, cool. If not, not big deal. I never go after a rainbow unless I have the 1/1 first though.

A rainbow to me is the base, refractor, all of the color refractors (red, blue, etc) & of course the Super.

that's an interesting way to go about it, since people usually do it the other way around. makes sense, if you really want the full rainbow.

I like your reasoning, I guess I just assumed I would find the super sooner or later. Still waiting

The ONE time I tried to complete a rainbow without the 1/1 hasn't ended well. A year later and still haven't even seen it.
I have completed several other rainbows though in various sports. Always after having the 1/1 in hand (pulled or purchased). Too much of a headache waiting for ONE specific card.
(Greg Valentine - missing the black 1/1)

Greg (the Hammer) Valentine. That is some old school wrestling. Good work!

Plates are considered part of master rainbow, very difficult to complete.

Yup, rainbows with all 4 plates are a nightmare. I tried for over a year with this Ali rainbow. Have everything except for 2 plates. Still check daily. I doubt this pic will ever be complete.

Print plates are used to place color pigments on each card, each individual card is hit with all 4 plates which are the colors stated above and provide all the coloring for the card. Pink is a misnomer for magenta, if you really want to get basic, the plate colors are blue red yellow (the three primary color required to mix any other color) and black.

The main reason I see plates as an added bonus and not part of a rainbow is basically because they aren't cards. They are what are used to make the cards. Cool to have, but apples and oranges.
