Default Ummm...shill bidding anyone?

Alright guys, I think I just found one of the most obvious cases of shill bidding in my entire life. Now...on the items I was watching, it did not seem to matter as the card went for twice what the shill bid was up to, but who is to say that on the 22 other items that were bid on or so, that it wouldn't make a difference.

I'm usually one to watch what I say and pointing fingers, but come on...really?

Here is the item I was watching:

BOB ST. CLAIR 09 DONRUSS CLASSICS PANINI AUTO CARD #1/1 - eBay (item 140397409768 end time Apr-15-10 20:00:50 PDT)

Now...if you go into bid history, you will see this person about half way down the page:

Bidding Details

Now...as of right this second, the person has bid on 23 items...and bidding activity with this seller is at 100%. Yes, this seller has plenty of items, but to only bid on this person's items...certainly seems a little funny to me.

If this seller is on here, feel free to defend yourself...but lets face it, this certainly just does not sit well with me. Either way, you've made it onto my list of sellers never to buy from either way.

yeah that would be very hard to believe that that's not shill bidding. The same person is only bidding on your auctions and bids on every single item you are selling.

I think we done losted control of this thread! lol

But I agree, we will certainly see what happens. He won a lot of those items...and either has a lot of money or is shill bidding. Of course even if they reappear under this person's account, still screams shilling. Just seems they used that account for the high dollar items to make sure they went for what they wanted.

I don't understand how a bid and a counterbid can be labeled as shill bidding if it didn't happen within a day or so. He only made 1 bid a day. The last bidder made a bid, and increased his final bid. Then the winning bidder trumped him. I don't see that as a shill. If I were you I would not be so quick to judge.

What a shill is, is when you bid 5 times for $.50 until you are ahead, and then bid another 5 times to gain control of the auction after someone else outbids you. I think for a 1 of 1 cut auto heavy bidding is indeed going to occur, and some people going to bid every day because they want the card.

Yeah 23 items bid on 31 bids all 100% with same seller. Clearly its a shill bid. "Most obvious cases" is a little much, considering theres numerous clear cases of 100%, and the extreme goes further to where its more than 23 items.

That being said, I don't agree with shill bidding by any means, but atleast this guy isn't abusing it and retracting and bidding over and over. It sucks, but its a moral dilemma if anything, when you factor in having to pay extra $ for eBay reserves, and fixed pricing, yada yada.

Now up to 85 total bids, 74 items bid on...all with our friend this wonderful seller.

He may be bidding on one person's auctions, but its not quite what I would call shill bidding. On the first auction you listed he only placed one bid and it went for double his price. Shill bidding is where a person will bid in small increments raising the price until they usually are the high bidder and then they retract the last bid.

People shill bidding is increasing the price of an item for the sellers benefit with no intent of paying for the item if you win it. Increasing by little amounts or retracting bids is just a couple examples. There isn't one way to shill bid. And this looks like shill bidding. Since when do people bid over 70 times on only one person items. Very obvious it is shill bidding

what is the point of the shill bidding if you run an auction up and cant pay for it?

this is not true all the time. as a matter of fact I would think that 90% of the shill bidding cases you will never see a retraction.

i think you may also be confused. shill bidding is used by a seller to drive his item up. the seller may have other accounts or he may have a friend do it. i have seen auctions with shill bidding in several different ways: to set a reserve without having to pay to set one, to drive up a bidder (ebay really hurts buyers by showing a bid count), or to set a false value for a card (if you have a card that is not oftenly sold a seller may sell a $500 card and run it up to $1500). Obviously the item never is paid for, seller can claim that high bidder never paid and they are reselling it. Now relists it and bidders check completed and see it sold for $1500 and that's what they think it is worth.)

It's clear this MORON is just shilling his items for the minimum he wants for it.

$50 on the card in OP for example.

What a toolbag

It's nice he gives his buddy feedback too

sonicbigmouth has 44/107 feedback from seller alone

He hasn't "bought" from another seller since March 2009

Exaxtly. Because reserve auctions rarely sell. Some stuff he has a lower reserve. Some stuff he has higher reserves on. The Art Shell he sold last night had a reserve of what I won mine for a few days earlier. I just got a good deal and his sold for a little more than what it probably would have if he'd not had a "reserve."

But my understanding is if the bid starts out at lets say .99 and i come on and bid at 35.00 then it would show i beat the bids that come in below me correct 5.00,7.50, and so on so it would show i beat them out no matter how many times are bid before that could be 10 or 20 times
