49ers acquired WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. from the Dolphins in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010NFL Draft.
Ginn took a major step back as a receiver in his third year, dropping too many passes and losing his starting job in Miami to middle-round rookie Brian Hartline. However, Ginn is still just 25 years old and maintains explosive return ability. He brought back two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2009 and averaged a solid 24.9 yards per return. |

Could be an intersting matching for him in SF. At this point he's not a #1 WR, but Crabtree will take that. Good special teams player though, and at a #5 pick, not exactly a bad deal for SF.

A good pick up for a 5th rounder. Mainly brought in to return kicks and he wont be more than a #3 WR behind Crabtree and Morgan. A good speed guy the 49ers needed of in the WR department

# 3 WR, #4 receiving option, maybe #5, behind Davis and Gore.
Helps a lot on the KR/PR though where the niners sucked last year, and gives the receiving corps more speed. Not bad for a 5th round pick, the guy was drafted 10 overall or something wsnt he?

Yep #9 overall. He may not see to much time as a WR even if he is the #3. The 49ers ran a lot of 2 WR's 2 TE's in a lot of formations. There wasnt many times where they lined up 3 WR's. They did do it, but not that much

Interesting move for San Fran.
Heard they were gonna go for Spiller to return kicks. Looks like Mr. Spiller will be headed elsewhere.

Ginn should have never been drafted as high as he was. Dolphins made a mistake and Ginn would have had a hard time living up to expectations regardless of how he did. But Ginn didn't live up to even the expectations of a mid to late 1st round pick (where he should have been drafted), at least not as a WR. Honestly, Ginn was probably as much if not more of a threat running plays out of the backfield at Ohio State. He's more of a Randle El type producer but the Dolphins didn't really utilize his talents in that way because they were so dead set on making him a traditional WR and justifying their over-drafting of him.
I think San Francisco is getting a good weapon and a bargain price. He's not a #1 or #2 receiver, but he doesn't need to be in order to be productive. If the 49ers use him much like the Browns use Cribbs, he should be fine. Ted Ginn is no Josh Cribbs, but he's a lot better than he's given credit for.
