Default Pete Carroll: Christine Michael 'going to get a ton of work'

GETTING ME EVEN MORE EXCITED FOR THE SEASON!!

CMIKE!!

When Around the League met with Seahawks general manager John Schneider at the NFL Annual Meetings in March, nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than talking about Christine Michael.

The hard-charging second-year running back barely saw action last season behind workhorse Marshawn Lynch, but Schneider cited Michael as a runner with excess "God-given ability" and the chance to compete for more time in Year 2.

With Lynch skipping this week's organized team activities, Michael made the most of that opportunity on Wednesday, grinding out carries with the first team and rattling off "several impressive" dashes in 11-on-11s, per ESPN.com's Terry Blount.

"We have very high expectations for him," coach Pete Carroll said of Michael. "He's going to get a ton of work. He's just a million miles ahead of where he was in terms of understanding what we want scheme-wise, pass protection-wise, route-wise, and we know he's a natural runner. He's got explosive talent and we just want to get him to fit in."

Like young Carlos Hyde nestled behind Frank Gore in San Francisco, Michael might still be a year away from seeing significant work behind Lynch. We'd be surprised, though, if he doesn't hopscotch the lower-ceilinged Robert Turbin to see regular carries this year before potentially taking over the lead role in 2015.

His pass pro and blitz pickup was horrible last year. They couldn't afford to put him in most the time. But his explosiveness is cray. Remember he was the Hawks #1 pick in 2013 draft - with Lynch and Turbin already rostered.

Pete Carroll said the same thing about Turbin going into last season.

Not to be a debbie downer but be careful planning for things like this. Last year the Bills head coach said that he was going to run Spiller until he puked. Right now coach speech is in full effect. My question to the group since I dont know is this, is Michael better then Lynch? Lynch is a top 5 RB in the league in my eyes so not sure how to take this

Not sure he did say the same thing about Turbin last year. Do you not believe Michael is going to be integrated into offense a lot more then?

I'd love to believe it.

But, knowing Carroll, I think its more a public diversion.

It's a shame his prices are already pretty high, as if he already has a monster season under his belt.

The way to look into this is that after this season lynch will have a cap hit of over 9 million.

They also plan on resigning Wilson after this season and currently have around 10 mil of cap space for next year. I think the writing is on the way to say that lynch will most likely be cut after next year unless he takes a huge pay cut for amen who will be 29 after next season, which leaves the starting rb position open after this season. They spent their first pick of the draft in 2013 on Michael so there is a lot of high expectations form him.

I think most Seahawks fan have already already taken this in as a possibility and understand the whole situation.

This is what I'm curious about considering where his prices already are.

I guess I could see a spike if he starts playing really well, but over the long-run it doesn't seem wise to invest in a RB unless they turn out to be the next Adrian Peterson.

I mean, I can still get a Contenders McCoy or Charles for cheap and they've already established themselves as elite at their position.

I think as for prices, the best situation to compare this is to the priest Holmes/Larry Johnson days...

Yeah but you can't get a McCoy or Charles contenders for $12, which is what you can pick up a Cmike for, or cheaper...so say a day comes where they're up to $40-50. That's 300-400% on your $12, which even though a small amount it is still a huge profit margin.

Look at his highlight tape... you will see why his prices are so high

He has incredible and is explosive

AP like... yes a very high comparasion

As some1 else said... the Hawks wouldnt draft another RB so early with Lynch and Turbin last year

they love CMIKE!!

He was viewed just as talented if not more than guys like Ball, Bell, Ellington, Lacy, Gio

His off the field issues and in the doghouse of his texas a and m coach cost him playing time and draft status

this is my favorite of his plays

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGyQZupGpZM

Cmike is gonna make a huge impact even this year

Yes it was the opposite with spiller but there are many cases of players who are talked up and then perform high...
Last year Alshon and Jordan Cameron were both talked up and were pretty solid...

I personally think Michael is better than Lynch... if Lynch goes down Cmike would be a top 5 fantasy RB the rest of the way

No exaggeration there....

He could be like Josh Gordon breakout potential this year or next...

This will be lynch's last year for sure. Whether he surpasses Turbin on the depth chart or not who knows. Carroll blows a lot of smoke and is always being deceptive. I can see him and Turbin sharing the load when Lynch leaves. The days of superstar backs are dying. Unless you have AP talent which I don't quite think Michaels has.

I remember there was a thread last season about Turbin v. Michael. I still think that Michael would jump Turbin eventually, and since he was fairly raw coming out of college, it would take at least a year. A lot of the stuff I've read on various sites, point to Michael being much more talented than Turbin. Not that Turbin isn't a viable RB, just not the potential to fill Lynch's shoes whenever he leaves.

I don't believe any of "2nd string guy getting more carries". It hardly ever happens.
