Default Braxton Miller May Miss 2014 Season

Hoping this is just a result of miscommunication on social media, but lots of credible Ohio State Football sources are saying Braxton Miller reinjured his shoulder that he had surgery on in the offseason.

Everything I've read had said he was on schedule to be just fine for the regular season, but it sounds as though something went wrong today. Speculation is that he could be out for the season and even a potential medical redshirt to play in 2015. Here's to hoping this is just something wrong with social media, but things aren't looking good for the Buckeyes.

Cardale Jones should know the playbook inside and out, since "he ain't there to play school".

I wonder if it was a contact injury (what's Urban thinking) or a throwing injury (they rushed him back). Sucks for Miller as he was pretty hyped, and even as a Michigan fan I don't wish injury on anyone. I want OSU at full strength.

Wow. Crappy to hear. I just had my weekly smack talk with my uncle from Ohio this morning. He was expressing his concerns over OSU's backup QB or lack thereof. Looks like his concern is real now.

Hopefully the injury isn't too serious for Braxton.

From what I read earlier today, it sounds like JT Barrett has overtaken Jones as the back-up QB. I'm a big fan of Barrett, but not in this situation. I'm 99% sure it wouldn't be a contact injury, but I also don't think they rushed him back. I've heard he's been on a very tight schedule for his return. Then again, I don't know what to think at this point.

Ohio State's back-ups have all the potential in the world, but I'm really hoping we don't have to see it come to fruition this year. There's no Kenny Guiton to save the season this time.

I saw that Barrett was the likely backup, but don't know much about him. Their O line isn't supposed to be that good this year, right? Tough to think that even if Miller isn't hurt right now that he doesn't miss a few games at some point.

Yeah, they're offensive line is a bit of a cluster right now. I'm sure they'll be fine, but nowhere near as good as last year. With Ohio State's OOC schedule being full of good teams but no real contenders, they could survive at least through that part of the schedule with a decent back-up. The only issue being that both Barrett and Jones were unimpressive in camp.

Sad to hear.... Even though he is on the Buckeyes, the kid is one hell of a talent.

Ohio State will survive.

I feel bad for Braxton more than the team. Great kid. Sad to see this happen to him.

As far as the actual season - shouldn't be an issue until at least November 8th.

JT Barrett (who at one time was the #1 dual threat QB in the 2013 class before he got hurt and dropped to about 10th) will be fine. All he has to do is get the ball to Wilson, Marshall, Elliott, and the rest - there are playmakers everywhere - Urban has to earn his paycheck and make sure he puts JT in position to get them the ball.

And the Defense will keep them in every game regardless.

It's the difference in College Football between the haves and have nots - the Top 25 teams can usually trot out some 4 or 5 star backup if someone is lost - that's the luxury the smaller schools usually just don't have.

It sucks for sure - you can't "replace" Braxton.

But you can certainly still win your games. This exact conversation happened years ago when Pryor was out and Braxton came in.

Braxton was pretty bad that year.

All the injury means is OSU will find it tougher to beat the lesser B1G teams, didn't see them winning at MSU anyhow. They already had the script to stop Miller.

I'm not saying Ohio State has a hard schedule, but it's harder than Michigan's (whose fans are all over this thread for some reason).

2014 College Football Strength of Schedule - NCAA Method

@Navy, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, @Penn State, @Michigan State, and Michigan isn't really a cupcake schedule by B1G standards.

Why are you comparing it to Michigan? That's not even part of the discussion. Michigan is probably going to be a disappointment once again anyway.

OSU was in the playoff discussion. They only have one ranked team as an opponent as of right now. Read up on it and you will see everyone else calling it soft at best.

I'll happily take an 11-1 season - which is what I'd bet on if I was guessing how they end up.

I think we'll lose to MSU and then probably again in the B1GCG. That will be enough to knock us out of playoff hopes.

We shall see - it's going to be an interesting year.

Here is a good read on Barrett from when he was recruited

So you're saying that OSU loses to MSU, but MSU some how loses at least twice in the Big 10?

Wow......out of the National Championship picture.....I know OSU fans will keep their hopes up, but I see them as a 8-4 team now....AT BEST

$100 right now that they win at least 9 (and they'll win more than that). If 8-4 is "the best" you should be all over the free money.

I'd put the season losses O/U at 2.5. Hopefully we do better, but it'll be close. Sucks because now the preseason Big 10 favorite is already down, strengthening the "Big 10 is mediocre now" argument.

Which two games is MSU losing, then?

I don't think this changes the playoff picture, MSU would probably have beaten them anyway.
A shame though, he's a fun player.
