Default Fanduel/draftkings restricted states?

Signed up on sunday morning for fanduel.. Enter a few 50/50s etc which i win pretty easily.. sign up for two for the monday-thursday game this morning. Go to sign up tonight for the sunday-monday games which i put together a really nice roster for and blamo.. Tells me im in a restricted state.....

Had no idea there were restricted states.. We get hundreds of fanduel tv advertisements every week.. So i went on the website online to see what was going on and it let me register for tourneys on there... Didnt ask me what state im from or anything...

So just wondering if anyone here has had the same experience and is currently playing from a "restricted" state.. Im in washington state btw. After looking it up online fanduel says "we will let you complete any games that you're currently in but youre not allowed to play in the future"

I really hate washington state lawmakers.. We can legalize pot but i cant go online and play in a fantasy football tourny because they classify it as gambling? Pft.. Stupid laws like this and no online poker and the gun laws theyre currently trying to restrict further have me seriously considering leaving this state.

Im guessing so... I cashed out 25 bucks via paypal and didnt even know I wasnt allowed to play. I believe they say if you hit 600 profit in a calendar year you get the tax papers.

$600 annually.

"For withdrawals, we may request that you provide your mailing address and SSN before the withdrawal is processed - this helps in the event that your annual net winnings may exceed $600 and we are required to file a 1099-MISC tax form.

We conduct anti-fraud checks on playing patterns and deposits prior to processing all withdrawals so may request additional information before your withdrawal is approved.

In cases where a site user has received a bonus or other benefits as a result of their deposit and has not yet played through the deposit (entering contests whose total entry fees equal the value of the deposit), FanDuel reserves the right to refuse the withdrawal and/or close the user's account."

Here is the legal page on their site:

Why are states individually restricting this? The government should see this for what it is- a huge business that can be TAXED. You'd think they'd love to get their greedy hands on some of this money. Especially a state like Washington, how is smoking pot OK there but not playing fantasy football online for money?

All of his P2 Nation fans are baffled because I dont think the players know which states are excluded.

Right... Its outrageous.

Really defeats the purpose of my playing there and i worked up a really solid roster that i wanted to play in some of the big tourneys as i was able to find a salary cap minimum player that i think is gona have a big week and be a low percentage play so i was able to load up on high end expensive talent too...

In states such as Washington fantasy sports encounter a greater risk of liability because courts in these states have adopted the true contract-law meaning of the word "consideration."

The gambling-law element of "consideration" is met, even absent an entry fee, so long as the contest participant expends substantial time or effort that benefits the contest host in some way.

Stated in terms of fantasy sports, even if a host site offers a free fantasy sports game, the game may run afoul of state gambling law if the elements of "chance" and "reward" are both met.

Your questions are answered on the link provided. Washington didn't make it illegal:

"The laws relating to fantasy sports varies by state however in the vast majority of them fantasy sports is considered a game of skill and therefore legal. In most states a game of skill is classed as game where skill is the predominant factor in determining the winner. The states where our lawyers believe the law is unclear or questionable about the legality of fantasy sports are Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana or Washington. Therefore we do not offer paid entry games to residents of those states."

FanDuel made the decision based on what their lawyers advised them on.

Is any type of sports betting legal?
In 1973, when the Gambling Act was first passed, 100 square sports pool boards were authorized. This is the only type of sports betting allowed in Washington State. Bracket pools, office sports pools, and fantasy sports have never been authorized as gambling activities in Washington State and are illegal. See our Sports Wagering brochure.
Quote:
Sports pools are allowed under Washington State Law (RCW 9.46.0335) as long as the board is based on a single athletic event, the board is divided into 100 equal squares, numbers representing game scores are randomly assigned to squares, and you must charge no more than one dollar per square. Only one sports board is allowed per sporting event per business or party. Both businesses and individuals can conduct sports boards within strict limitation.
Quote:
Can I bet on sports on the Internet?
No. For Washington State residents, all gambling on the Internet is illegal, including all types of sports betting. It's also risky, since many Internet gambling sites are operated from foreign countries with different laws. Players may not receive money even if they do win, and Washington residents have no legal way to claim their winnings from an online bet.

You could always use a 3rd party that you trust....There must be a few members here who are upstanding and willing to place a wager for you. You could pay them direct PP, and they could resend it if you win or at an agreed upon cashout figure....maybe with the 3rd party taking a vig.

I am in AZ as well. Had no problems depositing with my paypal account. I guess I'll worry about withdrawing if I actually win something substantial.

Im also in AZ and the application on my phone wouldn't allow me to play any $ games... I tweeted fanduel and told them I'm a military member California state Tax payer etc. just stationed here and they said you can't deposit any or play $ on the APP while physically in a restricted state so I just entered on my iPad. I just entered a game on the app this morning though I don't know if they lifted it or it was just a glitch

Well i just tried something.. Denied location services for the app and then tried to sign up for a tourny... It denied me said location services had to be on to sign up for a tourny or deposit.. Turned location services back on and it magically let me join a tourny.. Maybe it hadnt redetermined my location again yet? Worth a try..

True. Too bad the one i had from new york i just closed at the start of the year. Only problem would be tax claims tho. I guess i could file in washington the same as if i won in vegas... As it wouldnt be illegal to play when im "staying at my apartment in oregon" lol

Really getting ahead of myself here as clearly its not that easy to win big on there lol but giving me some good ideas just in case.
