Default Fake Walter Payton Auto 1997 legends

1997 Upper Deck Legends Walter Payton Auto Autograph Al 4 BGS 9 not PSA | eBay

anyone familar with the set knows that this isn't real. Looks like it is an old beckett slab so I hope they wouldn't slab one of these now. needless to say if it was real it would have been gone by now.

Old thread that talks about it. I'm still not clear on if it's real though.

There were a lot of unsigned cards from this set released....all with the COA on the pack.

I haven't seen or heard of any of the black ink Payton cards pulled from packs...just the blue.

Different pen, different size signature, different signature structure, etc...these black signatures are definitely questionable.

The autograph itself isn't even close to Payton's.

If that passes as real, I got some Walter autos to sell you, and some bridges in Brooklyn and SF.

It's definitely fake. The auto isn't even close and there's plenty of these fakes out there. There were a bunch of these with the COA on the back but no auto that got released some how.

You are no longer allowed to "PC Da Bears" if you think that's a real Payton signature...

Why blacks and blues look so different is beyond me.

Found a scan of my old black one too:

Don't believe me. I don't know what I was thinking with that post. That was a long time ago.

This card is 100% fake.

The only ones that aren't legit are black ink. The slant is different, the W is different, it's just all 100% wrong.

You are forgiven and Grant now admits he was wrong with the black inks so many moons ago. He and I have compared Payton autos before to reassure each other on purchases.

Thats fake...

There are tons of Marino and Favre non-auto'd versions of the card with the COA on the back that got out and were signed on the secondary market.

lol Beckett...they would slab it again, see the coa on back and not bother to actually check the sig...just one more reason I will never sub an item to these clowns.

BINGO! Fake signatures or fakes patches. Their excuse is always "The card itself is real" No one is saying someone made this card in their basement. Just someone signed a blank version in their basement BGS you are priceless.

...how in the world did that black one gets past BGS (AND it's an old label) authentication is beyond me. That autograph is nowhere remotely close to the real thing. That is bad....

You realize this is exactly what PSA does nowadays, right? This card was graded in 2002 before they started grading the auto; they at least had some sense to change their practices. No way that gets slabbed if it were submitted today.
