2008 Topps Sterling Baseball (38 slots)

Well after a 4 month break....I'm back. I see that a couple people have tried to get this break going without much luck. I think most were afraid of the cost. I think this might work.

First off...we all know there are 10 player boxes, with 1 Auto/Relic/Both per box. 3 Base cards per box. 1 mystery pack per box.

Heres how it will work:

There will be 38 slots.

10 slots - Player boxes
10 slots - Mystery packs
10 slots - base cards
8 slots - nothing

1. Once all 38 people pay for there slots. I will use random.org and match up everyones name with one of the 38 players listed below. Everyone will have a player. People can trade or whatever until the break.

2. When the case arrives: It will be opened. I will seperate the all the mystery packs from the player boxes. I will match up the 10 players boxes with the correct slot holder.

**Also** You will only be able to get 1 hit per slot. That means: If there happened to be 2 Ty Cobb boxes and you had Ty Cobb you would get only 1 box. The people who did not get a palyer box would get randomized and some else would get it.

The remaining 28 slot holders will then go back into random.org. The first 10 listed will get a mystery pack, the next 10 get a base card slot (3) from a player box.

3. I will then open everything and list and scan all the hits. (Box by Box...and Mystery packs)

Each Slot will be $85.00 (Includes all paypal fees, shipping, supplies, etc)

If you get a base card slot: You will get a $30 refund.

If you are one of the eight who got nothing: You will get a $60 refund.

I know it might sound a bit confusing...but it will work.

The break will be recorded and posted on YouTube.

Sorry if this sounds rude, but basically you have a 21% chance of not only getting nothing, but having to donate $28 to the break. That doesnt sound like much of a deal to me.

Its a gamble yes. But you have the chance of a player card for about 1/3 the cost of box. It didnt look like most people wanted to shell out $120 for a Player or Mystery pack...so this is what I came up with.

If there were a way for those people who get nothing to get their whole $78 back, I would agree that this is the best way to do it.

With my setup I figured that for right around $100 or so you would be guaranteed something. For resale the "hit" should return at least the slot cost. The mystery pack with the base cards could be a very good slot to have. The mystery card should sell relatively well right out of the gate, and I'm sure that the base cards will as well.

So what if I pay $100 and can only re-sell for $20 or something, then I am risking $80. I like Jedi's way and I would take the gamble.

I was thinking this over, let me know what you think.

10 player boxes x 150 = 1500
10 mystery packs x 75 = 750
1 base slot x 100 = 100
Total = 2350

About the same total as above (and you could change the prices of the slots). Of course everyone would pay $150 to begin with and then get refunded if you get one of the mystery slots or the base slot. This way everyone gets something and you aren't "donating" money to the break. Also number of slots is lower.

Like I said, I was just thinking. Comments welcome.

Guys just like any high end product this is a hit or miss break. There are only 11 or 12 real hits. And for the big hits there are probably only 2-3 in this case. You will have the Jumbo Patch, if you get a decent star it will easily be a $300 card, if you keep a common guy it will only be worth like $75-100, if it is a super star and even better a super sweet patch, you could easily get $1,000. Same goes with the 1/1 patch. If you pull a cut that is easily 2K+. If you get a 1/1 auto of most players it is a $500 card. Then you got the 5 relics, which most likely will get you $25-50 except for the big guys which will still only get you only $100-200. But this is an intersting break, spending $25 and getting nothing, but honestly id rather have that then get 3 Stan Musial base cards for $55. But sill I think you could knock a few bucks off the price, especially if you can use the live discount and get a case on the bay from blowout for 2,238.89 -250 for $1988.89.
