To Video...or not to Video...

Quick poll - who really cares if the group break is video'd (?)? Furthering a discussion of a recent thread, I'm just curious what the feeling is. I know, I know..."the video validates the break...blah, blah, blah".

I'd much, Much, MUCH rather have a senior member do a non-video break than somebody new doing a video break. The video gives a very false sense of security...IMHO.

Okay - a group break allows a second case at a discounted price, right? So, the "unethical" breaker videos box 1, then videos box 2, then videos box 3 - with a Presidential Cut!!! Reload, then "re-video" box 3 with a different box and so on and so on. Result - the video does NOTHING to validate the break.

My point is this - the video is definitely overrated - PERIOD (imho). Quick aside - this is in NO WAY indicting any of the group breaks we've had, but I've seen Karl, KMD and others note they would love to do a break but don't have video - I'm in, In, IN!!

i am doing the donruss americana without video, and most people said no problem
i used to watch breaks, but they get old, why? i break 100s of case, no need to see others

I have to disagree with you on this... i think that it does validate the break IF AND ONLY IF the video taping is uncut. sure for you tube you will have to break it up, BUT there are other means of posting it (google video) to other places that can store the uncut break.

yes its possible to edit the video and give everyone a shaft, but how many of us here on the board know how to do that flawlessly? or even have the equipement to do it?

I know for my cup break i had to break it up into two parts because it was too large for youtube but i (think) i still have the full, uncut break which (if i was doing a group breaK) i would be more than happy to send to someone who isn't vested in the break to verify that it is uncut.

uncut videos are the key here i think - and this could solve the issue of videos creating a false sense of security.

personally, these videos do make me feel more secure that even though my slot sucked donkey balls - it was fair and legit.

I agree with the kramers. Captain: say I buy TWO cases of Exquisite, yet am hosting a group break for one case. I could video one case; if it is awesome, then that case belongs to me, and I could then video the second case for the group. (And if the first case sucks, THAT would stay as the video for the group.)

So I agree with the kramers: I would much rather have someone I trust who has been on here with us a long time with no video, than a new person with a video.

I myself don't have the camera, thus I've held off trying to do a "group break." I don't always watch the videos, mostly because of my limited time. I do very much like the pack by pack or box by box posts on the board with scans following. As an added suggestions, if the product were high end enough, I know I've got at lesat 1 if not 2 board members within an hour or so of me.

oh. i was so focused on the idea of doing it box by box like TK suggested that I never thought about it this way. when you put it this way, yah you're right. lol

I agree with the new member vs. veteran member sentiment. When I did the Tristar break, there wasn't anyone calling foul and there wasn't really any reason to...now if I did that case without video, people might have wondered if the case really wasn't all that great or if I just put quadruples of joe schmo autos in.

Thankfully I had a camera, but I think that if I did the break without one, most of the folks who know I'm an honest guy would have taken my word for what was in the case (as I completely hold faith in Brent...if anyone has been around even a little while, you understand).

I LOVE the exquisite explanation above. I could just hear the video now..."OMG, M*J*!!!! PAU GASOL LOGO PATCH!!! CASE HIT!!!" LOL!

Luckily there are enough vets on here to do breaks so this isn't an issue.
