Default 2011 Rookie Retro - GRETZKY

Had posted this on the baseball BB forum but I figured I should put it here:

1979-80 Topps WAYNE GRETZKY RC AUTO BVG JSA AUTHENTIC AUTO

Is this auto from his younger years? I can't find one that looks like it. Not sure what I will do with it yet as I have no clue what to put for BV or SV.

It looks like a serial killer auto more than his auto now. If I had to guess, judging by what I have seen, the auto will decrease the value of the card. If it is even real.

That card looks like straight azz. Was he running to a car when he signed it?

If that is JSA certified I would question if it is even legit. JSA is known for its fake autographs.

The JSA guys must have been more drunk authenticating this card than Gretzky was drunk signing it, even if it was real it looks very off.

Sorry to inform you my friend that card is bogus. Send it to some other authenticators, have them send you the paperwork that it is fake and send it back to whatever company tried to pawn this garbage off on you.

Of course it is. Anyone who is surprised by that hasn't been paying attention.

not a real auto. I have many in person gretzkys and I've gotten some bad ones, but never look anything like that

Do you have any Gretzky autos from his early days? Because the auto could be from his rookie season, when his sig probably looked pretty different.

His autograph has changed over the years like most athletes. Everyone THINKS they are an autograph expert because they have seen a few autographs of a player.

The top one you posted is fake as well, the bottom one is real though. I dont claim to be an expert but I have collected hockey cards for almost 30 years and supercollected Gretzky for 20 of those years. I have seen hundreds if not thousands of Gretzky autos. The one he pulled from the retro box and the top one you posted are fakes. I know you dont wanna hear that but its true. All JSA does is compare the submitted auto to autos they have in there files and if they look similar they authenticate it. If you were to send a Upper Deck certified Gretzky auto and the other two cards I mentioned to a court certified hand writing expert they would come back as signed by 3 diffrent people. Court certified hand writing experts go over things with a fine tooth comb they dont just compare pictures. I would be more then happy to place a wager of your choosing if you like. Thats how sure I am of it.

How come all of the auto "experts" are here on the blowout boards instead of actually working?

The PSA/DNA authenticated card looks very similar to the card the OP posted. I think I would get a second opinion on the authenticity of the card.
