Hey EGR, way to be positive in the new year.
The one thing that I dislike about these boards are the negative comments about someone's break. When it comes to which products are good and which aren't is one thing. Everyone's input, whether positive or negative, is valued. But ripping on someone's box breaks is personal. Maybe he doesn't really care if he profits. Just likes to break. As far as I am concerned, if you don't have anything nice to say keep it to yourself. Last edited by davebo; 01-01-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

Lord knows I'm not in it for the money, I'd almost be just as happy buying Tony's base cards, and helping to trade singles off to everyone else....its the thrill of opening a pack and hoping for "the hit." Luckily my wife kinda likes the hobby as well, otherwise with the $$ I've lost over the years she'd of divorced me. Now adays, I've just started selling off the inserts, trade the complete the base set if I like the design, and write the rest off as a fun time. Lord knows my duck hunting, dogs, and fishing are not $$ makers either...but hey, I can't take my $$ with me right

There is nothing wrong with an honest assessment of someone's break. When you post your break, you are putting it out there for public discussion. If the break was weak, I certainly wouldn't want some Little Mary Sunshine comment like, "Wow -- great break!" if it isn't true. No need to be mean about it, but why lie to protect feelings over a truly bad break?

Because a bad break is in the eye of the breaker. You all assume that it is always about the money. Hell, if I broke a $75 box and pulled a Varitek jersey, Manny jersey and a Beckett jersey, people would say you'll be lucky to get $15 back. But maybe I don't care because I'm a Red Sox fan and I think it was a fun break PLUS I got 3 Red Sox jerseys. That's why. It doesn't always have to be about the money.

I am going to be "wishy-washy" on this issue. While I do sell most of the cards I rip, I do always hope for a player that I collect.
In all seriousnss though, if any of us were truly in this for the money, we wouldn't be cracking boxes left and right to get that big hit, we would being doing what Chris and Pat do, selling boxes and cases. I used to think that I was going to pull a Crosby everytime I opened a box....and it would get me let down. Now, I hope to get what I want so I don't have to pay a crap load for a card I want, but if I don't I am going to sell off what I don't want so I can buy more.
