Well... Blowout Cards definitely has the best prices, but they sure didn't do a good job at pulling some good boxes for me (I realize they have nothing to do with what is in the boxes).

This is my first attempt at breaking some boxes in several years and needless to say, I feel cheated! Thank you Upper Deck.

Someone please give me some encouragement. I was thinking about buying some SPx when it comes out, but I'm leaning heavily towards saving my money for something lese useless. What it because this product has been out for several months, does Blowout Cards have crap boxes, what is the deal?

i hope you know price is back in minor cauz carbo wanted him to PLAY.. he wants him to get better for next year cauz he couldnt leave huet on the bench for weeks.... price is way better than Halak and everyone know that.. they just wanted him to play everyday instead of staying on the bench and play a game every 8 days.. next year every price rookie cards will double up!

for the first time since 1990 I have not purchased UD Series One in mass quantity (at least a case). The points made here are all valid, bottom line here UD is just awful. This is basically their flagship product that gets wide retail and (what is left of the) hobby distribution. I suspect by the time UD two is released (in March- you just know it will NOT come out on schedule) this product will be well below its Nov price point. You know they produced a ton of it and who knows with its initial success they may have restarted the presses again and released another "wave".
The same insert pulls in boxes from the same case is more than common, been happening for nearly 20 years. Like clockwork. This person is a perfect example, buying hockey for the basically the first time, maybe because he saw the outdoor game, or one of the young prospects play. I know each box can't have a Price, Gagner, Kane, Bernier and or Backstrom YG RC but come on UD's collation is flat out sorry ass awful. Always has been.
8-10 years ago I could not hang on to any UD YG's or inserts as they would fly off my table as folks would build sets and scoop up commons and inserts. Over the last 3/4 years I go entire 3 day shows without being asked about this base UD hcky product. That is my primary issue as to why I did not get any this year (or I am waiting) I got plenty left from years prior; especailly the post lockout years. UD is a joke, they have virtually destroyed the hockey card marketplace. They have no concept of the front line marketplace, their SP concept once it came into hockey began the decline. Way too many products that are overproduced, overpriced and lack any innovation, Products that come know were close to holding their collectability. My customer base has been been getting smaller and smaller with each passing season despite once in generation player talent. Just image if El Sid and AO were not lacing them up?

My box of UD Series 1 yielded a Price, Kane, and Bobby Ryan Young Guns plus a Drew Stafford Auto. Overall, I received 7 Young Guns. I would consider this product a hit or miss product. Most Upper Deck products are diluted and full of common jerseys and autos, which is dissapointing from a collector or seller's point of view. The best Upper Deck Base Product was 05-06 Upper Deck Series 1. I opened three boxes that year and pulled 11 jerseys, including a box that contained a Gretzky SP Jersey, a Rick DiPietro Patch (Two Color with White in extreme top corner, and Crosby YG. Each box contained a major hit or even two major hits. I was still dissapointed with the player selection with the jerseys . The player selection for jerseys and autographs is becoming even ridiculous every year . I will guess that the hits wee better in this product since production was reduced 40%!

I knew I wouldn't get the heavy hitters, but to get the same identical inserts in two different boxes was a little upsetting.

SPx, comes out next week..you get 2 veteran jersey cards, 1 rookie jersey, 2-3 rookie cards and 1 autograph rookie jersey

SPx is nice, May want to wait for Hot Prospects, RC patch auto per box, and 2 jersey cards per box. Price is cheaper and RC patches are numbered to 399 and 199. The cut the production by 200 of the tier 2 rookies by 200 per card.

I double-checked tonight to see if I completed the entire base set and sure enough... I got the entire base set including checklists in two boxes. I assuming this is probably normal, but it put a smile on my face.

Now what to do with it?

I think I'm going to pick up a box or two of the SPx and possibly a box or two of the Series 2 when it comes out.
