Wow, that motivates me to bring the good stuff out... not. How about you hang around here and post a little bit before you start making demands.

Canadian cash? This is an American site for the most part, isn't $40 worth $22 in American money? Sheesh, I have a couple of Simon Gagne rookies sitting around.

I see why there aren't many people on this forum. I simply ask for jersey/auto lots then you guys start giving negative comment? great forum. If you have nothing to offer..just don't post, it's that simple

I had around 100 at one time. Bought a ton of wax in the late 90s. I still have 200 Daniel Corso rookies somewhere... no motivation to look.

There was a time when Gagne was a $25 card and JT was a $30 card... and I still have em. Dumbass. Kind of like a guy coming on here with no board cred and posting buy demands on here.

Your attitude and immaturity is unbelievable. There are some great folks on this board with great cards and great cabbage to throw around, but sadly you won't see any of it. Please go troll in "Mojo" land.

Let me tell a story, a story that will make your balls shrink to the size of raisins (just kidding).

I was a marginal hockey and baseball player at SMSU. I took a baseball scholarship and appeared in a couple of games but they kept me around because I was willing to drive the van.

Knowing that I wasn't going to be a MLB or NHL player (I was pretty sure before I got to college) I cracked my books hard and graduated with a 3.58.

The NCAA does not let athletes have a job, so myself and three of my roommates (we rented 1474 Cairo Street... a converted meth lab) spent the first part of 1994 trying to figure out how to make money.

I was a card guy, so I frequented the local shops and shows (there was no eBay back then). A dealer friend of mine got himself a computer that he could order directly from Topps with. Rather than enter 1 case of 1994-95 Finest hockey (which he ordered for me) he accidentally entered 111.

Back then, Topps printed and printed and printed, so 111 eight box cases of Finest showed up at his store. He told me about this and it was going to cost him $80 a case to send them back to Topps, so we cut a deal I paid $40 under cost for the cases with an agreement that when the cards were sold back, the $40 x 111 would be repaid.

So I made the deal. The only problem was I didn't have $28,000 sitting in my bank account to pull this off. That's where the roommates come in. We sat around the bowl (yes, guilty as charged) and figured that we could sell the boxes for $10 above cost and make our money back and then some. Between the four of us, we scratched up the money (it was a combination of cash and credit cards and stupidity) and bought the cases and brought them back to our dump... then the lockout happened.

We all knew the NHL wasn't stupid enough to cancel the season, but moving hockey wax was going to be impossible, so what we did was started burning up the phone lines to card shops in every NHL city, offering to sell Finest team sets of their city. We got $3 each in Detroit, Toronto, Montreal and the New York Rangers and I remember we got $5 for the Sharks, but most team sets were sold for a $1 each.

So we ripped, and did we rip. We spent hours on top of hours building team sets and drinking beer (hey we were in college) and doing other things (hey we were in college).

In the end we would up with about 1000 of each team set, and we unloaded the team sets. Sure enough, at the end of the sale, we had cleared $52,000 and still had the refractors, inserts and the WJC cards. I went and paid the dealer as agreed, but there was no eBay and with the lockout no demand for the inserts and refractors, so we split up the difference.

I thought that Ryan Smyth was going to be a superstar, so I opted for the WJC cards and refractors while the rest of the guys divided the inserts amongst themselves. Its probably the only time you would hear "I'll trade your Joe Mullen refractor for your Wayne Gretzky ring leader."

So we each had a finest set, a finest refractor set, a finest insert set, our part of the remainder and close to $4000 in our pockets each. That was when "Rink Rats Cards" was born, and we burned up the phone lines for the rest of our 4 (some of us 6) years in college making deals with dealers everywhere selling team sets.

...and that is how I have so much of that stuff, or had. Most of it is gone now. I wouldn't want to go back to being 18 and in college, but if I had to, Rink Rats is why...

...now if I could just figure out where I put that box of Daniel Corso rookies.

KMD,

Unbelieveable right there. A major screw up ends up benefiting you all for sure (although it does sound like a butt load of man hours went into making it happen). I would have crapped myself when the order showed up on my front door. Thanks god for beer and "other sources" in college because I know thats the only way 3 college kids are coming up with an idea like that LOL. And they say nothing good comes out of drinking and smoking

marnan let me make this clear THIS IS A OPEN FORM, IF YOU CAN not DEAL WITH IT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MOVE ON <<< GET IT ???
Telling people to not post if they do not have those cheap cards you most likely have..IF you just posted with out that attitude and said like **New to BO board looking for your best jersey/auto lot available for around Canadian cash ONLY!......***.
I might ask can you afford the stamp that has to be placed on the plain white envelope you are going to place the $40 Canadian cash and send ?

Do you think that this obnoxious reply post from you could been the start of your problems?

It was me an three others. Fortunately Robbie was well off and he paid the freight for most of the first break, I had the connections in Montreal and New York and the rest was history.

The Finest cases were 8 boxes each, and we were disciplined with separating them into teams so it took a long time... but we had space and time to do it.

The craziest one we did was the Zenith Dare to Tear hockey, that was frustrating. We killed so many gold 5 x 7s to get the smaller sets. That took forever, and we only did 20 cases of that because we were pretty much in agreement that it was going to be a disaster (it wasn't) and we did over 100 cases of those double wides of the preferred.

Got one CTTC Hossa out of 100+ cases and one precious metals. Don't tell me they didn't print a ton of that stuff.

Only took a loss once in the 6 years we did this. One of the Pacific hockey products, I want to say Aurora, was a disaster for us.

I used a similar strategy although on a smaller scale to put myself through law school. I don't think it can be done anymore, dealers aren't buying team sets by the 1000s anymore, but every time I hear about some enterprising guy selling those phony Sidney Crosby rookies for $10 outside the Mellon Arena, I get a grin, after all, we were the jerks selling the "official first" Wayne Gretzky card on him in a Blues uniform, taken by yours truly with a Vivtar SLR camera, outside the Kiel Center.
