Default what would you break with 5K?

Hey guys I will soon be back into the hobby after a year hiatus. So to start my year off with a bang I have 5,000 dollars to spend just on boxes or cases from the years 2000-2011.

My question is what would you bust if you had 5,000 dollars saved up just for cards? Keep in mind that I'm looking to start collecting hockey, mostly high end stuff, but may buy other sports too. I know I will buy some old boxes of stuff especially from 2005-2006!

Also if there is an upcoming product that you know about let me know. So with that being said I want the trusted experts at blowout to give me their opinion!

p.s. I enjoy busting whether good or bad it gives me a rush!!! I also don't care about the redemptions if i'm only buying a box of the old stuff.

thanks guys

I'd go for all the vintage boxes I could find. Going back and trying to pull a Gretzky or Lemieux rookie would be awesome to me!

Get some of the better singles from 2005-06 along with some wax. A lot of the wax has dead redemptions in it now.

If you are looking for Young Guns I have ton of them including the big ones. They are getting ready to be sent to PSA or BGS.

Damn, bunch of people who usually aren't in the hockey area, too funny.

Moe, let's get down to some hockey basics. The main 3 years you want to hit are 05-06, 07-08, and now 08-09 with Stamkos stock rising.

Aside from getting main rookies out of the years, are there any players/teams that you follow? Can't do it tonight but will list out a list in the morning for you to consider. Will do a value and fun combination plus a couple pointers.

Finally a reply I can use!! Thanks for your help. I actually dont have a team I follow being in the army and being far far away all the time like I am now. Fortunately I am due back in america by march!! Thats why I havent collected in over a year. I got into the game because I just so happened to watch the gold medal game of the winter olympics and fell in love. So long story short I will watch almost any game that I can see whenever i'm not busy or if they show one. Thanks for the reply and any help would be useful. I will say I like Evander Kane and I believe Ovy dosent need a stick on the ice he's such a thug!! lol

I would say definitely get THE CUP from all years starting with 05-06 (for Crosby and Ovechkin obviously). along with the great rookies from each year, there are also tons of great veteran and legend cards to be had out of that stuff. Good luck with whatever u decide to buy tho!

Okay, here goes. Keep in mind this is my answer to the question of how to spend 5k on a hockey break of boxes/cases for a combination of fun and value and getting into the sport. An answer of best value, investment etc. would be different. Prices listed are from stock prices, once you place your order, you should contact Chris or a main sales person to get the best (ie, weekend sales) price for this big of an order. Anyways, I think this break would be a lot of fun;

05-06
SPX box x3; 435 price
SPGU box; 170
Rookie Update box x3: 150

06-07
Bap Portraits box; 99 (you get 6 8x10 autos in the box)

07-08
SPX box x4; 376
SP Authentic box x4; 524

08-09
Legends Masterpieces box x2; 148 (just a fun set and some hockey history)
SPGU box; 128
UD series 1 blaster case; 160

09-10
UD The Cup 3 box case; 1200
ITG Superlative box; 350

10-11
ITG Ultimate box; 609
presell Famous Fabrics Ink x2; 200 ( two cut sigs, why not)

Total of above pre-discount = 4549 leaving almost 500 for singles or another box or two of the Cup.

By the end of that break, you should have a pretty good start on your hockey Collection!

Similar story with me.......a hockey novice but began following it and collecting it after I went to my first live game. Its an amazing sport with some of the worlds best athletes! I am a TB Lightning fan. That was good advice from Rinkwrath. Get some of the major rookies from the years he listed then possibly go after some high end cards of your favorite players or your favorite team. After that spend some money on wax. I like The Cup and am now thinking about some other high end stuff. Like I said I am just about brand new to opening hockey products.

My favorite types of cards are multi-colored patch cards so what I did was put together a little PC of patch cards and AU's of Tampa Bay players.......Vinny Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and now recently Stamkos, etc. Since then I have started to track some lower end 05-06 Crosby and AO cards (and in the meantime, every now and then, I am having fun opening a high end box or two)

The Cup, Crosby or Ovechkin/Malkin year

By far the best product and you can pull Gretskys auto as well.

Can't go wrong with a case or two of this.

The Kane / Toews / Price year is awesome for value as well.
