Default Winter Classic Thread

I live in Pittsburgh and the weather conditions may not be favorable for an outside game. Temperatures in the low 50s and rain is not conductive for hockey outdoors. It could be postponed. Let me know what you think.

They should do it somewhere with an -ahem- real hockey climate, IMHO. Like Alberta....or Montreal, or Detroit, or Minneapolis....or Toronto....

The radio stations around here are reporting that the game will be cancelled and moved now because of the weather.

BC of the storm? Or because of the warm expected conditions?

I agree though with the other poster. NY, Michigan, Canada... Those are the ideal places for the game.

Because of the rain....they will try and play Sunday but it's supposed to rain all day then as well. If that's the case, the game will be moved indoors and played at a later date in the season.

OUCH - that will be a big PR hit for the NHL - they should do it outside in Jasper, Alberta next year and forget about taking chances. That is depressing

Kind of strange given the freakish winter storms we're getting in the northeast right now.

With the advanced mobile system they have I do not see a problem unless their is a consistant rain on game day, the temp. at 50 will still allow the game to be played however the conditions will be less than what an NHL game should be played under.

This should put the kibosh on the New York City outdoor game ideas.

I would guess that the rain would have to be really light to play. I know the systems they use to freeze the ice are super high-tech, but have you ever tried skating on a frozen pond after it rains? Not fun.

This is not going to go over well with Governor Rendell. He is still seething from the Eagles game being moved to tonight.
