Upcoming Hockey Releases

So, with UM8 delayed for another several weeks, I've been looking at the upcoming release calendar. Frankly, I'm not impressed. Let's take a look:

Mater Pieces - 4 GU/AU - $110/box - 18 packs/4 cards. Reminds me of BeeHive with the mattes and framing and 5x7.

Fleer Ultra - 2 GU/AU - $55/box - 24 pk/8 cd. Same old w/6 RC, golds, a redemption and ice medallions here and there.

OPC - various GU/AU - $38/box - 36 pk/6 cd. To me this is probably the most interesting and fun to build big sets.

There's always UD Black, 2 lousy packs and regular UD.

I guess that I'm just not as excited as I shold be for hockey. Am I alone on this one?

very excited to see the checklist for black - hopefully some fresh faces for auto's & gu'ed.

My think is with the high end stuff...I rather just get The Cup than Black. I hate parallels (although I'm finding they can bring some surprise cash back) but I did love the oversized cards from Beehive so Masterpieces interests me the most.

Yeah, I love Bee Hive, my fav product. Just opened my 2nd box today, and didnt do too bad. I guess I would be exited for Masterpieces also.

i'm curious who the rookies will be. redemptions or real cards? i'm going to try 1 black to see what the buzz is.

not sure about you guys but im super excited about o pee chee. the design is great and i love the retro cards.

im still wondering if the number one pick will have a card ? he wasnt on the checklist.

i'm gonna give Black one shot with a box and see how it looks,i wish there was some type of sale sheets out showing how the product looks,it's going to either be real nice or completely disgusting.

Now may not be the best time to get into Black. It came out at $1950 I believe and is up to almost $2500. So you may want to wait for the release to see if it is worth the $250+ for the box. The guys in my Group Break may have gotten a hell of a deal if it lives up to the $500 increase in case price.

Stuff looks like junk. IMO. The rookies are the 08/09 rookies and there nobody's. I would not buy a box of this stuff.
