Default Need thoughts on a player:

Hey guys I am just a baseball guy but when I lived in Madison Wi - I saw a few Future NHL players play for the Universite of Wisconsin Badgers(Bourque-Suter, Winchester, a couple of others)
and I was wondering your thoughts on Rene Bourque- I was looking to pick up an auto or so.... I know he wont be as good as his dad but I see he has already bounced from Chicago to Calgary and he seems to be playing well--- is he going to make an impact on the NHL?

thanks

Rene Bourque is no relation to Ray, or Chris Bourque. His chances of making an impact on the NHL are minimal because a defenseman has to do so much more to be a star. Still, if you like the player get an autograph.

I believe he was converted to a d-man ala Brent Burns and lately Sergei Fedorov. Even so, as a forward he was a third liner at best.

Well. Thanks to the NHL Network , Directv, and Saturday Hockey Night in Canada I was able to watch Bourque's first Career Hat Trick last night against the Sens....

even though I had to stay up till midnight I couldnt stop watching when he had the two goals to see if he got the third

Was he playing on the wing or as a d-man?

Kara, I will admit I am not a hockey expert and say that the only rule I am sure of is offsides. So I dont know what position he was playing in particular but I thought he had significant ice time(He is listed as a Forward on the Team Website).....he took advantage of the extra ice time and was definitely not a liability out there----

that is one of the greatest sights in sports hats reigning down on the ice after a Hat Trick is scored

Also, something I have never seen before, I am not sure why, with about 10 minutes left in the game that Mike Keenan pulled his goalie in a tie game but it worked...they

Rene Bourque is playing on the second line for Calgary and is having a career year with 30 goals and 60 points not out of the question.
