Default NHL All Stars

NHL did a great disservice with this vote by text message and vote for your whole team crap. Look at the starting roster:

East:
Sidney Crosby
Evgeni Malkin
Alexi Kovalev
Andrei Markov
Mike Komisarek
Carey Price

West:
Patrick Kane
Jonathan Toews
Ryan Getzlaf
Brian Campbell
Scott Niedermayer
Jean-Sebastien Giguere

One question: "Are you serious?"

In the East, why isn't Ovechkin a starter? For that matter, you can argue Backstrom, Savard and Parise deserve a look. Malkin is a no-brainer, but really with the way the Pens have swooned, should Sidney Crosby be rated ahead of the other three. What about leadership? If you consider leadership, Mike Richards, Phil Kessel and Todd White belong in the conversation as well.

As far as the Eastern conference defense, again, are you serious? I can see Andrei Markov, who is having the quietest 50 point season I've heard of, but Komisarek has barely played enough games to qualify for the game. Dennis Wideman, Mike Green and Tomas Kaberle have all had better seasons, and when you consider the amount of games Mike Green has missed, he's easily the best offensive D-man in the game.

No argument against Carey Price, but shouldn't Tim Thomas and his .935 save percentage merit a second look? What about Scott Clemmensen? Yeah, Clemmer should be an all-star, maybe even start.

I'm not going to bother with the West, I don't know enough to make more than my casual picks, but if I have a starting All Star Lineup, this is it:

East:
LW- Alex Ovechkin
C- Evgeni Malkin
RW- Phil Kessel
D- Mike Green
D- Dennis Wideman
G- Tim Thomas

West:
LW- Daniel Sedin
C- Ryan Getzlaf
RW- Jarome Iginla
D- Dan Boyle
D- Shea Weber
G- Niklas Backstrom (Minnesota)

Next season they are going to do away with fan voting and have nhl players and coaches, sports writers, vote for who they think should be in... Crosby is the biggest joke since well a very long time. I know guys I am partial to Ovechkin and when he isn't the starter in a game that is supposed to be. It just pisses me off!! OVECHKIN is the BEST Player in the NHL!!!!!!! He will at least be there and play but come on guys Crosby and Malkin could it be anymore pathetic. Malkin is great and should be a starter but Crosby!! This guy ... this guy... man I wish I could just wring some canadians neck (*not really) Come on PEOPLE grow some ba..lls and vote for who the actual best player is... OUT!!! E

Who's 2nd in the league in scoring? Anyone, anyone? If Crosby wasn't in the top 10 in scoring, I'd say that is justified, but don't give me this crap about your biased opinions on Crosby and flopping and he's a girl and he's cheap. Facts are facts, he's 2nd in the league in scoring and is the most popular player in the NHL, hands down.

Ovechkin isn't in because the market for hockey in DC stinks and Candian's hate him. When it comes to voting, it's a popularity contest and a ballot box stuffing session, that's why Ovechkin isn't in there. If you need to argue that Ovechkin is a great player, you're wasting your time.....everyone knows he is.

What the crap was that, he grabbed the jersey before McLean knew what was happening. The look Jay Bouwmeester gave Crosby was priceless. It sort of said "WTF?"

Florida in the 10th slot, Pittsburgh the 9th, but one team is on the rise and the other is in decline. April 5, Pittsburgh has to come down to Florida to play the Panthers, it would be sweet revenge for Brett McLean to score the game winner that eliminates the Penguins from playoff contention.

For those of you kool aid drinkers out there, the Panthers are the team on the rise.

I would think by now that we all know the AS voting is a complete joke. It is a popularity contest as it always is. I am a Wings fan as most of you know and I am ok with non of my guys in the starting lineup. We had plenty in there last year (although it was well deserved). We have a few guys that should be up there imo but ohh well. We need to look at the games that make a differance anyways. Once the NHL switches this crazy "fans vote" crap, then they will see some of the best AS game matchups. The fans did get a couple of players in there though that deserved to be in.
