Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, step inside, step inside.....
I thought I'd get this year's version of the hockey fights thread started with a little pre-season action starring two usual suspects Jay Rosehill and Shelley; Jay Rosehill vs Jody Shelley, Sep 21, 2011 - Leafs vs Flyers - hockeyfights.com Typical Shelley blood here and the play by play calling using the term "rock 'em sock 'em robots" gets this one posted. Anyway, as most of you know the role of the enforcer in the NHL is under more scrutiny than ever before in the NHL after the untimely passing of Boogard, Rypien, and Belak this offseason. It is one of the most underappreciated roles in sports and also one of the most crucial to prevent opposing players from taking cheapshots on your team. I salute the brave enforcers of the NHL and wish them strength and health both on and off the ice this season.

I have mixed feelings about the enforcer role, I know it is something that is necessary to not seem intimidated, but it's scary too. I also wish them strength and health, well said Rink.

Just a stupid hit by Shelly so the 10 games is clearly warranted but Rosehill did something equally stupid by jumping Shelly right above his fallen teammate. Shelly got cut with those first few punches because he obviously wasn't ready with the Leaf player down at his feet. Shelly did just fine after he got his bearings. Flyers won't miss him and this may help a little. They'll need about a month or so just to get their lines set after all the changes Homer made.
Fighting is a must in hockey and should always have a place in the game. Other than a goal, nothing wakes up a team quicker then a good scrap. If you take the players policing the game out by eliminating fighting then the pussies that can't fight will be swinging their sticks more than ever. More injuries occur from cheap hits and stick infractions then they do from two guys dropping the gloves at the same time and having a clean fight.

Zac Rinaldo put a beating on Dale Weiss last night busting him open with some big rights. Really like this kid and I hope he sticks around.
Dale Weise vs Zac Rinaldo Sep 26, 2011 - YouTube The biggest douche in the league, Sean Avery, was at his turtling best last night after running his mouth about how he was gonna go after Giroux (caught by the rink side t.v. mics btw) then bitching up when someone (Wayne Simmonds) challenged him. You'd think the guy would be embarrassed to make himself look like such a pussie but I guess not since he does it quite a bit ??? Avery whimps out. Flyers / Rangers Preseason - YouTube Thanks to the wonders of youtube I was able to find the feed where the rink mics picked up Avery running his mouth. All that yapping about killing Giroux then you turtle when it's time to go ??? I wish he would have tried Giroux, bet Giroux wouldn't be as easy a mark as he expected. Briere is more Avery's speed if he's looking for an easy mark. Sean Avery threatens Claude Giroux (Avery Mic'd Up) | Sep 26, 2011 [HD] - YouTube

But, but, but.....he's normally such a classy guy....
![]() Well, let's see, it wouldn't be the first time Avery has got himself into trouble on the old microphone. However will Bettman explain homicide on the ice to his daughter?

Awesome punch by asham. He really seems to be underrated as a fighter. This should put him up high on the lists ( below Colton Orr, of course!)

On several occasions tonight it looked like ol' carbomb was going to drop the gloves tonight...however he did just enough to get under the opponent's skin and he surprisingly flashed some skill here and there. I think having him on a line with hossa and kane is going to be deadly, and provide some balance to the top 2 lines that we didn't have before!

It took long enough for there to be a good one, but when Rob Ray says "best fight I've seen in two years" it's worth taking a look at;

Konopka fought Avery today. And Deveaux fought Cowen during the Rangers/Ottawa game tonight.
I hate Zenon for his toughy-feely comments about his poor captain not being there to suck his balls.. but whatever. I Still want Avery to be bashed in the forehead till he figures out the world RESPECT |
