Default Re-alignment approved!

Just got word the NHL has approved the 4 division re-alignment. Thoughts?

As long as Boston and Montreal stay in the same division I couldn't care less!

More importantly if Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa stay together I'll be happy

I'm with you 100% on this. When I first became a hockey fan, I had no idea of the importance of names, like Smythe, Campbell, etc. Out of curiosity, I ended up trying to learn who these folks were. That in turn help me become more educated about the history of the NHL. Bringing back the old names instead of keeping the boring directional ones would be a nice nod to the NHL's past.

This realignment tells me 1 thing right off the bat, the NHL is sending a message to Ted Leonsis: "You will not win and you will like it." Washington is going from the worst division in all sports to a killer.

Only thing that seems strange with the alignment is the FL teams.

Would make more sense to me for them to be in a conference with Dal, Nash, Stl, Car, Wash/Cbj. Then merge those midwest teams as a northern conference.

Yes, that will be tough for the Caps - wowzers! In a strange way the FL teams make sense in that division, given the number of northeasterners and Canadians who winter in FL and probably constitute a fair % of the gate at any given Bolts or Panthers game.

I don't really like Winnipeg being the only Canadian team in their conference. I dont know why Colorado couldn't have moved to the Midwest, and Winnipeg moves to the west. I get the time zone constraints, but I'd rather see them play teams like calgary and Edmonton six times a year, rather than two.

i dont like it. it brings out the OCD in me...but i have never been a fan of divisions that are not equal in number of teams. i like that Houston is moving to the AL west so now all 6 divisions will be 5 teams each. football, basketball and hockey are just fine how they are...no need to change them.

Except Winnipeg is considered an "Eastern" team right now. How does that work?
