Exclamation Wow, no thread on the Winter Classic?

I'm surprised...maybe this is just appealing to the NY and Philly markets but I'm excited. The Alumni game the other day was awesome, and I can't wait to see this game. Should be a great atmosphere...(also can't wait to see the behind-the-scenes on "24-7").

My prediction: Flyers 4- Rangers 2.

The Alumni Game was great to watch. And I would LOVE to get a copy of that photo they took of all the former Flyers with the Phillies Jumbotron in the background!

As far as the game goes, have it on the tube as we are dismantling the Christmas tree. Hope to see anbi Flyers victory today!

Watching that game was SOOOOOO much fun. Just to see all those great players who I grew up with (and grew up hearing about), was just special. And the reception for the players (particularly Parent and Lindros) was great to see.

Good game so far.

Whew, that was fun. Best team in the NHL found a way to win!
those calls at the end on Callahan and the penalty shot were preposterous.

heck yeah!!!! unbelievable at the end. mcdonagh gets pushed into the net, callahan gets pulled down going for the empty netter, briere awarded a penalty shot. why not just give the game to Philly?

glad Lundqvist prevails!

Ahh there all the rangers fans are....after the game. Get off your homer horse...there were bad calls on both sides. The flyers would've easily scored to tie it, if the ref hadn't blown the puck dead when Lundqvist wasn't even close to covering the puck. And the penalty shot call was absolutely the correct one.

Regardless of the refs, the Flyers were slightly outplayed, but like every thing, the flyers do, it came down to the poor goaltending of the flyers vs the good goal-tending of the opponent. Fun game though..wish they had let Giroux take the penalty shot.

-sigh-

Yeah, there was a bad call on the D-O-G penalty but the penalty shot was absolutely the right call. No doubt that puck was covered in the crease with the glove.

Credit where it's due ... NY was the better team today. Hate to see the Flyers get out-played like that on such a stage, but it is what it is. I am just realy, REALLY tired of, year-in and year-out, having soft goaltenders. It's like the closer curse the Phillies have had virtually since the Cy Young days of Steve Bedrosian (Lidge's magical 2008 season aside)...you just know a soft goal is coming at somepoint.

Ahh I'm deciding between this and the Sixers home opener. The sixers might just win, even though I want to go see an outdoor game

Well, that wasn't really english, but I think I know what you're saying. Different strokes for different folks... I was thoroughly entertained, even if I was unhappy by the outcome.

Flyers played well for the first 40 then, once again, a terrible goal takes the wind out of their sails. Can't let a very stoppable shot like that squeeze in between your arm and side. The difference in every Flyers Rangers game this year has been Lundqvist. Has to be frustrating in the room when goals are tough to come by and your goalie lets in a sh*t goal.

BTW - I don't understand Lavy going with Briere over Giroux on the penalty shot. He said Briere is more of a "pure goal scorer" so he went with him. What does he consider Giroux ? Did he miss the one he roofed earlier ???

Only questionable call was the one with JVR in the crease. Should have been a non call. The double minors called on the would be break away and the penalty shot were spot on.

Yeah, Lavy could have picked anyone that was on and he went Briere over Giroux. Briere has been fighting it lately and Giroux is having a ridiculous year. Lavy's my boy but I didn't understand that one.

My thought's exactly. That made ZERO sense to me. Giroux has been unreal, and is the most skilled player on the team. Not a knock against Danny, more of a compliment to Claude. He should've taken that...would've been a different result.

O ok, wasn't sure if he was or not. Yeah, Giroux should have taken it.

And i was disappointed there as not even one fight.

Rangers vs. Flyers and no fight? Come on
