Default 1985-86 O-Pee-Chee hockey box

Does anyone remember how these broke? Was collation real bad on these or had OPC fixed their problems by then. A buddy stumbled on three of these suckers at a truck stop outside of Snout and they look minty fresh. He wants to go for a PSA 10, I say don't do it, sell it sealed.

Thoughts?

Now that was an awesome truck stop find. I would crack them too, especially if the boxes were cheap. How much did your friend get them for?

not sure how many you would get. but i bought a box of the lemieux rookie year and i got 4 of them .

i sent in the best 2. these looked very good on centering, and edges, corners, also no gum stains. both came back as 8

i was stunned. i couldnt beleive it.

still the card to me looked pefect, and now i have them in something that will protect them for life. also was a very fun break. took me back to my childhood.

if your frined got these at a good price i say just keep them sealed.

your taking a prety big gamble on opening them up and getting them graded

I think he paid $100 per for them. Not sure. He was delivering a load and they had to move a few things around and found the three boxes in a near-empty case and made the owner an offer on them.

He's a weak man, he's going to rip one box and sell the other two. I told him that he should rip the one with the Lemieux box bottom card b/c I would guarantee him $50 for it as long as he let me take the panel (I'll take it to the print shop and have it laser cut).

I will post details and hopefully pictures if I get there before the last wrapper is busted. First pack had an Yzerman and a really old piece of gum which he tried to chew, so we might need to get some antacid too.

He broke the box. 4 Lemieux, 4 Yzerman, 5 Gretzky, it was a nice box. All but one Lemieux was centered 60/40, there is one that is dead centered and mint, its going to PSA.

Sad thing is he'll need 3 9's or a 10 to make up for what he could have gotten for the sealed box. I paid $40 for the empty box, I'm taking it to the print shop to be laser cut. Hopefully I can get there this weekend.

also as far as the o pee chees go. i bought a box of the yzerman rookie year about 2 years ago. i was so disgusted. i got 4 yzermans but the thing is these cards looked like they were cut with a butter knife. also terribly centered. it was a big waste of money

That's the way OPC came those years. I always do a double take when I see a PSA 10. They never came out that nice, even when they were fresh out of the pack in 1984.
