Default Ovechkin's Cheap Shot

The NHL won't have the balls to suspend him for tonight's game, which they should due to his obvious cheap shot on Gonchar. Tonight's game is the NHL's dream - a prime time game with the two feature teams in the playoffs, but guaranteed if that were Chris Clark or Laich or Steckel that dealt out the cheap shot, they would be suspended in a second.

Looks like the "Cheapitals" get the advantage for tonight's game due to the old attage "If you can't beat 'em, just take em out"

And don't give me this crap that it wasn't cheap. Watch the tape over and over and you'll see ovechkin slide his right knee out when Gonchar came by. Believe me, somewhere down the line, might not be this year, someone in the NHL is going give ovechkin his payback and catch him with his head down.

Yawn - I can't believe yet another negative post about Ovechkin. Can't believe a Pens fan is asking for suspensions with Cooke and Kunitz on their team. "Can't beat em ?" REALLY ??? WTH maybe the NHL should just reward you game 5 for this blatant act and spot you a goal or two in game 6 as well.

"Watch the tape OVER AND OVER".....so its that obvious huh Rob ? Stop already. Be happy LeTang's shot went in off a Cap in game 3 and that this is now a series again.

He won't get suspended, there has been a prescient set by the league this year of not suspending guys for knee to knee hits. He will take his fine and be on the ice tonight. His presser was pathetic last night, trying to look like he felt bad. He looked like a kid that was in the principles office after getting caught. That wasn't remorse or feeling bad for doing that to a supposed friend. And this is the second time he's hit Sarge with a cheapshot. Got him in the head and knocked him out cold in a Super League game during the lockout.

The guy plays reckless and dangerous and it is just a matter of time before he seriously hurts someone. I'm not just saying that as a Pens fan, this is the third guy he has hurt with a questionable hit this year.

All that being said, I hope Brooks destroys him tonight. Legal, dirty, with a bat in the locker room, I don't really care.

It wasn't a cheap shot, it's only a bad hit. This is a contact sport. I saw the play and there is no way Ovechkin was trying to injured someone. It's Ovechkin, not Chris Simon.

100% obvious. He's a cheap shot artist when he's frustrated and last night he was frustrated because he couldn't score and because Scuderi shut his ass down. Someone is gonna pull a Scott Stevens and catch him with his down and it's lights out Ovy and nobody is gonna feel bad.

This is a pretty damning shot. Tell me how he was trying to lead with his shoulder and make a clean hit?

Head up, elbow tucked, leading with the shoulder. Please stop crying. That was incidental contact. IF Ovechkins leg buckled instead it would be like Caps fans blaming Gonchar for dragging his skate behind. Give me a break. Its a physical forward going after a D man on the forecheck. Its part of the game. Did I cry when the Pens took run after run at Timmonen in the first round ? NO, its part of the game.

Calling that CHEAP is ridiculous. Its not like Cooke kneeing Timmonen in the quad when he charged him in game 1 of the Philly series or Kunitz cross checking Varlamov in the head in game 3.

BTW the league set precedence on how star palyers get treated when it somehow missed even a fine (let alone suspension) to Crosby for punching the dude in the nuts during the season. Stop crying already Pens fans, you get more breaks from the league office then anyone.

BAMBAM, you are ridiculous. You actually think that was a clean hit? You have got to be kidding yourself. He is not leading that hit with anything BUT his knee, which is why Gonch went spinning through the air.

Please try to stop defending the biggest clown in the NHL, Alex Ovechkin, because it just isn't worth your time.

Yes it is. He almost choked to death on the pacifier, so the NHL banned the use of pacifiers during the game.

Its comical how Pens fans hate Ovie when if it wasn't for a draft rule he could have been a Pen. They sucked so bad they could have picked first again and had Ovie instead of Malkin. Then we'd be hearing about how Malkin blows instead.

Never - not that many puck heads around here to talk shop with. Besides, Rob had the Pens written off after game 5 in Pittsburgh. None of his Pens posts count after the "its over" post about 2 weeks ago

Bam I am surprised at your perspective on this. I would figure you being the a typical Flyer fan conspiracy theorist being pissed at Bettman for not punishing Ovie for this...Oh wait I forget, he isn't a Penguin so its all ok.

Eric I'm still waiting to see a reasonable argument out of you that doesn't include some reference to the Pens sucking or Ovie being a God to you. But I guess its kinda tough when you have AO's balls glued to your chin. You must only be able to get out short sentences.

I'm not biased at all since I could care less about the NHL outside of Dallas but he led with his knee with intention of hitting him.

Bammer, I respectfully disagree. I don't think Ovy was trying to hurt Gonchar, but the play was reckless, and someone is going to get really hurt if that sort of thing keeps happening. A one game suspension is in order IMO.

I'll agree with the word "reckless" on this one too. I also agree with the 1 game suspension, which will NEVER happen. The NHL cannot afford to give a player like Ovy a one game for tonight because those TV Ratings are too important!

Imagine if Crosby did the same thing, I don't think they would even suspend him in the regular season just because they need high attendance and high TV ratings. Just like Matt Cooke said, if he was the one that laid that hit on Gonchar (which wouldn't make too much sense, but I am using it as an example) he would be out for a minimum of 2 games, maybe even the rest of the playoffs.
