I agree with you, likely not a one-gamer since Shanahan is fighting a war on concussions and not a war on head shots. Kind of like fighting a war against DUI car crashes but not fighting the war against people not getting behind the wheel after drinking.

My whole beef with the Briere t-shirt is I have no idea why nhl.com would market a shirt of a player as Mr. Playoffs when that player's name has yet to be etched on the Stanley Cup. If Reggie Jackson hit 4 homers but the Yankees didn't win the WS, I'm not sure Mr. October would have stuck. Just weird marketing imho.

We'll see where this goes, series isn't over yet and I'm always careful of momentum shifts when 2 of the next 3 are back in Philly.

Nothing more frustrating for a fan then to watch your team not compete both physically and mentally. I'll give Bryz his props because he's kept the games close on the score board and I'll give guys like Grossman and Timmonen a break because they're obviously playing hurt since the Pens series but the rest of team, including the coaches, have been horrendous this entire series. As if the stupid line change to end game 3 wasn't bad enough, yet another bone head play leads to the game winning goal. Devils rush breaks down and the puck goes in the corner, instead of staying with their defensive assignments both Flyers forwards circle around looking for the break out while the other team has the puck leaving Zubrus all by himself. I couldn't believe what I was #@&%ing watching. Flyers still have enough talent to come back in this series but it doesn't look like they have the focus or desire.


The only good thing about this season ending like it seems to be ending is I'll never have to watch Matt Carle in a Flyers uni again. The day he cleans out his locker for good will be celebrated like a holiday.

Again, just as an outside observer to this series, I have been a Pete Laviolette Fan ever since he brought the Calder Cup to Providence back in 99' as a new young head coach.
As a season ticket holder I was able to attend a few events where he was very approachable and always found him to be an intense character even in a social setting!
I know he is committed to the Flyers and players in particular, and that's where I see the major problem with the Flyers in this series, and that's the lack of a mutual commitment from the players. I don't think it's any surprise when you see a Team go from having 3-4 dominating lines, to a Team that is averaging in the mid 20's for SOG. This is where Lavy will step it up, and I think you will see a different Flyers Team next game as there Coach will not let them go out like this!

Just like the Pens are satisfied w/ their '09 Cup.

Whatever you have to tell yourself to make your team's failure more acceptable....There's been NO evidence of that from the team or from the fans. They just look over-matched, out of gas and unable to adapt.

Fact is the Flyers weren't expected to do anything coming into the season and put together something good with a bunch of kids. The Pens on the other hand were the favorite to win the cup, by many, and they choked in the 1st round, nearly getting swept by a "bunch of kids".

And it shows with a lot of them. Players who had so much "jump" in the Pens series just look dead in this series (beyond just being taken off their game). I also wouldn't doubt that Simmonds is injured, as he just has no strength on the puck, which is usually a "strength" of his game.

And btw, not using injuries as an excuse, just stating what I see. I'm guessing there will be a whole lot of disclosed injuries when this series is done.

I'm sorry, but please show me where people are making excuses? There's a difference between stating realities and making excuses. I'm pretty sure every flyers fan in this thread has pretty much said that the Devils are just outplaying them and are the better team right now.

If you're going to hate on the Flyers, at least do it for something that really happened, not what you want to hear in your mind.

He is talking about the past. Asking someone to google something like that is pointless. His original point, and it is valid, is that some fans will make excuses to explain away everything.

In this thread alone, there is the "they are happy with beating the Pens so they don't care to win any more" or something to that effect. Silliness.

In a vacuum, I think the 1 game suspension is right. However, in comparison with all the other stuff, the inconsistency is just an absolute joke. Giroux got the same amount of games as Neal last series who left his feet twice to target the head, on two consecutive plays, in garbage time. Shanahan, Bettman and all the "disciplinary crew" can eat a big bag of dicks.
