He recently signed with Ottawa and should be a solid contributor next season. I agree, though, he had a ton of upside. Shame what happened with him. Hopefully he'll turn it around with the Sens.

Happy for all of the Wild fans - AT LEAST THEY DID SOMETHING, whether you agree with it or not. You can argue the contracts, but who cares? The Wild are relevant again. Would it be better for hockey for Suter to have been signed in Detroit and Parise in Pittsburgh? I think not, unless you are fans of those teams. All of you on here bashing them are just plain wrong in my opinion. I guess seeing Cal Clutterbuck hitting people as their best highlight the last couple of years finally got old. Its about time.

If the Wings are going to win a Cup without those two, why did they try to sign them? Just to bring them along for the ride?

My point is they are eating up a lot of the cap, be snarky if you want, we will see what happens.

You say you dont follow/know much about hockey correct? Yet you are blasting everybody elses opinions/teams? Makes sense. ![]() I dont follow much outside of the Predators, so cant really comment on Parise. But this comment shows just how little you know. You do know the Red Wings just lost one of the best defensemen ever in the league to retirement in Lidstrom right? Therefore, they had a need to fill..right? so umm i think that right there answers your question ![]() As a Predators fan, this whole situation has been a slap in the face to fans from the Suter perspective. Hes been a great player..however i think he pretty much made it clear he wouldnt be returning when he turned down a contract extension/new deal last season and said he wated to test out FA. I dont fault him for wanting to do this, tis common with every sport. However, when you do make a deal...dont come out in the press conference and spew "politcally correct" crap and not just tell the truth. When i heard he said he "did what he thought was best for his family" i wanted to puke. How exactly is going to Minnesota "best for your family"? Seein as how youve been on the job in Nashville since your rookie year...your "off season" home is in Wisconsin...and it wasnt about the $$$ either, as the Predators had a deal ready almsot exactly the same (13 years/$90 million...oh no..that extra $615k a year he woulda lost was soo detrimnetal to his family). The only "connection" to his family is his wife is from Minnesota. Now..dont get me wrong..i dont know his life story/personal life..but to me thats just a load of bs. It was pretty widely known across NHL teams that hes good friends with Parise, and whoever signed him couldve enticed Suter as well (hence why Red Wings also made a swing for him). Just be a man and tell the truth...yeah i wanted to go play with my friend and that was a huge factor in my decision. Not this "best for my family" crap. |

It's interesting how everyone is judging this deal already. How about waiting until the season actually starts before condemning it?
Sure it's a lot of money, but someone was going to give them those contracts whether or not it was the Wild. Funny how many Wings fans were in favor of a huge deal for Suter, as long as it wasn't with another team. |

Same here. I don't know all the ins and outs of long term contacts vs. caps and the CBA. All I know is the team is a lot more talented going into next season. I've been following Parise since UND.

Even if things end poorly and the Wild need to buy one or both of them out, the contracts are so front loaded that most of the money will already be paid out. The buyout cap hit would be bad for the last 3 years of the contract- 10 years from now- but not enough that it would cripple the team. Add in expiring contracts for Heatley and Backstrom and the Wild can still be relevant in the FA market in the next few years. Add in a nicely stocked farm system with a ton of upside and you have the makings of a team that will be formidable for the next 10 years. I would have to think the Wild looked at the possibilities before signing them both, they didn't go into it blindly. |
