Default Parise and Suter sign...

Both have signed with the Minnesota Wild.

Franchise suicide right there. 13 years for Parise? LOL. They are now handcuffed for over a decade. Neither player is top 5 at his position and they both get ELITE contracts.

I'm finding it amazing these teams are paying so much for these middle of the road players. These guys would be forgotten and making meagers back in the Yzerman/Gretzky/Messier/Sakic era. The NHL is becoming more mediocre every year. Hobby death to both in Minnesota.

Sad day for new jersey devils and their fans.

But they will still be contenders.

I still don't get why you'd sign non-superstars (ie Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos) for over 10 years. You saw what happened in Vancouver with Luongo. Three years in they find a new 'tender and bam, they're trying to deal him with 10 years left.

Just a ridiculous couple of deals. Minnesota overpaid by millions and just handcuffed their franchise for years to come. This is just ludicrous.

Wow, lots of jealous people on here. If they would have signed with the Wings or Pens or Devils (or some Canadian team) for not quite as much then it would have been all hugs and kisses and great deals.
Wild makes playoffs next year. And who won the cup this year? Number 8 seed if I do remember correctly. Just getting into the playoffs in the NHL gives you a good chance at winning it all.

Bold prediction #1:
The Wild still will not make the playoffs next season.

Bold prediction #2:
One or both players will demand a trade within five seasons.

Hmmmm, sad to see him go as a Devils fan, but at least he went West.

At this point, I really haven't seen any of the Atlantic division teams improve themselves but obviously Parise is the biggest loss. So next year's Atlantic race will be interesting to see how that plays out.

The West just became Wild though.

I can't say I'm jealous of the Wild. If Brian Burke had done this deal (which really wouldn't surprise me too much, seeing as it's Brian Burke) I'd be up in arms about it, along with the rest of Toronto. This is a bad deal, plain and simple.

What this means for Minnesota is that two lower-level stars are dominating over 1/4 of their cap. Awful deal.

Can't agree more, the fact Parise is a Minn. kid will help sell tickets and could not be a better investment for this franchise (Jersey sales alone will be a pure money maker), as far as Suter he was the best available D out there and was a very sought after player, a hugh day for the Wild organization IMO And since when has a consistant 30+ Goal scorer been considered a 'mid-low' level star I would think any team would relish that kind of a Goal scorer in this League

As a Wings fan, I wanted Suter.. Once I saw 90 Million was our offer I puked and quickly changed my mind. He isn't worth that type of money. He's very good, not great. He is getting paid elite money now. He was NEVER even a nominee for the Norris..It's a brutal contract, 13 years for both will bury that team in 6 years. Parise is good, not elite, not top 5 at his position, no thanks.. you can have him.

I'm no hockey guru like someone from hockey hotbeds like LA or Georgia, but I do know that our team is a lot better off with those two than without them.

Moneywise? First thing is we're still under the cap. Secondly, if they signed for $7 million a year or $10 million a year, what's it matter to me? It's not my money. Think Pens fans are saying "Wow, I really think we could have saved a mil a year on Crosby"? I doubt it.

The 80 million was bad enough, of course I would of liked Suter on the Wings, but not at those numbers.

Owners are stupid, it's contracts like these that are going to cause another lock out.

No one is saying the Wild didn't get better today. However, almost 200 million in contracts for two very good, not great players is stupid.

Parise was a Top 5 (Tied for 5th in points) for LW, and has been a consistant 30+ Goal scorer, maybe not always Top 5 but def, Top 10, Minn. made a good business move signing a Minn. kid, who will be a fan favorite for sure, helps pay his salary putting butts in the seats.

How many "great" players are there? Crosby, Stamkos, Malkin.....maybe Ovie... Gotta spend the money somewhere.

I agree, he's a good player. Not top 5 at his position though. 6-8ish. Getting paid much more than he's worth. Very happy we didn't sign him.
