Default Whats the deal with Semin?

Or rather the lack of deal. I know that hes supposedly poison in the locker room and can get lazy at times but his skills are unquestionable. He is a great hockey player in pretty much all offensive facets of the game. Anyone know if he plans on going to Russia or are teams scared of him or what?

Ugh - as a Caps fan he bothers me. I'd be ok seeing him go. I think having him and Ovie on the same team is a bad thing. Honestly, and I've said this before, if Ovie gets traded I'd be ok with that too. Unfortunately, since he's a cash cow, there's no shot of that!

His skills might be unquestionable except when they are questionable... too much on and off with that dude... he's cold, he's hot... most of the time, he's luke warm.

He runs hot and cold, but in the right situation the guy looks incredible.

In this year's World Championships, he looked dangerous on every shift and seemed to be giving his best effort all the time. Of course, he was also surrounded by other super-talented Russians, and he looked way more comfortable around them than I've seen him in a Caps' uniform.

I think he's great when he's on, but there's a reason why the Caps' management and so many of their fans have been driven crazy by him. I want to see him succeed like he can (40 goals, 90+ points) but it will depend where he lands.

Man - if you just say the thread title out loud, it makes you giggle. I know it shouldn't, but it does.

My buddy lives in Maryland and goes to a few caps games here and there, he sent me a picture of a guy wearing a #28 jersey that had Jizz as the last name In an unrelated topic to the thread the best fantasy name Ive ever seen is Ovie Laichs Semin

Come on now. American players go hot and cold and they do not get ridiculed or called lazy, but a European has a cold streak and he is lazy and if he is on a hot streak they wonder why they don't always play like that.

I assure you that if Josh Bailey was named Josef Balianov he'd be given the same treatment but because he's a good Canadian kid its all good. They're both good kids, just give them time.

Its not the cold streaks that make him lazy, its the constatly taking plays off that make him lazy. I really dont care where a player is from as long as he tries his hardest

I'd take this kid on my team any day, put him in a 'comfortable' position with like players and he will not only be happy but a very productive player, this Kid can be Coached and Washington is not the place for him! A change of scenery is what he needs

I heard that he wants to play in the NHL. There were rumors Moscow offered him a 3yr 30m deal. If it was money he would have already signed in Russia. I know he has been labeled a lazy player, hot and cold, etc. If you watched the playoffs you saw the guy going hard all the time, diving blocking shots, forechecking, and his offensive skills are unquestionable. I would love to see him in a Devils uniform, 2-3 yr deal with a 5m cap hit. I think he is worth the risk short time. It seems that the Devils have a way of getting players to buy into their system.
Also, some teams might be waiting on Nash and other trade options.

7 million is a little high imho but, as a Caps fan, I'm not happy with having to play against Semin 6 times next season.

Carolina fans are in for quite the treat. You'll get to see some of the best toe curls in the game and the most offensive zone hooking penalties as well.

I agree we have been well LOL (that part of the games not even their) If we win games he will be on board. We lose then we have a major problem. The fans here will love him.
